Program Details

The Centre is set on park-like grounds and surrounded by lush green farmland, bush and the lovely hills of the Coromandel ranges, and the ambience is conducive to peace, rest and spiritual development.

Our Centre is a charitable trust and affiliated with the FPMT - The Foundation for the
Preservation of the Mahayana tradition, an international organization in the Gelugpa tradition which has over 150 centres, hospices and projects worldwide.

As a Volunteering Gardening and grounds keeping person, we ask
for help 5 hours a day, over the course of 5 days with 2 days off.
We provide in exchange accommodation and ingredients to prepare nutritious vegetarian meals.

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, however those who wish to further develop their spiritual path will find the setting of the Centre rich with opportunity for spiritual progression.
However, someone who is a great handyman or handywoman, with an interest in gardening and care for property is welcomed.
This is a chance to step back from busy life, wind down at a Retreat Centre, receive
accommodation and meals whilst offering service to the Dharma Centre.

Activities & Shift

The main activity is gardening and grounds keeping. Occasionally on a need to basis also small maintenance and repair works.

Rules

We ask all volunteers to abide and live within the 5 precepts of moral conduct whilst living at the Centre.

These are:

Protect living beings (refrain from killing, even small insects)

Respect others’ belongings (refrain from stealing and taking anything not freely given)

Speak truthfully (refrain from lying)

Refrain from sexual contact (to create a space for spiritual introspection and development with less distraction; dressing modestly is also encouraged)

Refrain from using intoxicants, e.g. alcohol, tobacco, etc. (to help cultivate clarity of mind and body, and create a safe, calm environment for everyone)
