Activities & Shift

We provide a private room and healthy meals in exchange for help on our farm and the chance to meet new friends! I sell eggs at the farmers markets and make goat cheese and yogurt to eat and to trade for fish, deer, honey, and vegetables from other farms. We also make soap with goats milk and am working toward self sufficiency and grow as much food as we can in the 2 gardens, and green house.

Being so isolated we're affected by storms and ferry schedule changes which affect the quality and availability of produce, so we produce/harvest  eggs, vegetables, berries, jams, preserves, wines, herbs, and goat/pork/poultry/venison/salmon. There is a large garden that we fenced and plant with vegetables and berries for us and our animals.   We also have 10 fruit trees that we planted 10 years ago, looking forward to increased apple/cherry/plum harvests to come!   Some years we foster baby deer that lose their mothers and we bottle feed them when the SPCA or Conservation asks us to help.

Living right between the ocean and forest we also dip net crab and riverside fish for salmon. Hunting for deer is also an excellent food source for us if you are wanting to learn.

Workers/ guests are welcome to work on the farm doing jobs that can be done independently or they can choose days as their hiking and touring the island days, it's up to you and depends if you like to work alone or along side us. If you are flexible and are coming to learn or help or just see Haida Gwaii we'll do our best to see that you will take away what you come to find.

Right now we are also hoping to find a person that is interested in staying for a longer term, a semi-permanent arrangement or a guest to stay for 3-6 months to help with summer harvest and Salal berry season.
