Program Details

We’re looking for people who want to make a real impact while experiencing a different side of Bali. We’re not a big organization—we’re just everyday people running a nonprofit to support the local community of Tulamben. We know this experience isn’t cheap, but every contribution directly supports the village. We want volunteers who are eager to connect, learn, and give back. Teaching comes first—not just for students, but for volunteers too. That’s why we’ve built a program that blends meaningful volunteer work with cultural immersion, ensuring you gain just as much as you give.

Activities & Shift

From Monday to Thursday, mornings are spent immersing in Balinese culture through activities like visiting local homes, learning traditional music and dance, taking Indonesian language lessons, or exploring temples. In the afternoons, volunteers teach English alongside a local teacher to students aged 10-18, using creative and engaging methods to help them build confidence and language skills at the local after-school learning center. Fridays include a bigger excursion, such as rafting, waterfall hikes, or visiting local innovators. From Friday afternoon to Sunday, participants have free time to explore Bali at their own pace.

Rules

All volunteers must abide by the Suwandi Foundation Code of Conduct which states that volunteers in The Suwandi Foundation programs are expected to act respectfully and responsibly towards themselves, fellow participants, staff, students, and the local community. This includes following local laws, avoiding risky behaviors like drug use and unapproved activities, engaging fully in volunteer work, respecting cultural norms, and maintaining professionalism in and out of the classroom. Upholding these expectations ensures a safe, meaningful, and impactful experience for all.
