The experience

The Reserve covers an area of 30 hectares of protected forest. We are a successful reforestation project and plant sanctuary. At the moment we are a lodge, but we are shifting our direction slightly to focus more on the environmental part and retreat. We are looking into turning more into a retreat center (advice welcome).
The reserve is a quiet place, we dont have parties, nor are crowded. Its more a place to experience to be in nature.

Program Details

We kindly ask to arrive on a monday and have the day to explore the premisses and enjoy the river. The tuesday after you will have an introduction about the help we need and the areas. The staff here only speaks spanish, so its a great place to practice, feel free to approach and interact. The help is 4 to 5 hours per day and vary depending on what needs to be done in the reserve.

At the moment we have a shared room for volunteers with a shared bathroom located outside. They use a volunteer kitchen.

Depending on the lenght of the stay and if you are a couple or a single traveller, we have different options for staying. Please be aware that during the rainy season it is a bit humid, as it is the jungle.

Within the Reserve there are some ancient Tayrona trails and a river where you can swim and relax.
Around the reserve there are many waterfalls and also the opportunity to discover more trails and terraces.
The Reserve can be reached by foot from Minca walking 5 hours.

It is very important to have BASIC SPANISH understanding because the tasks in the reserve are going to be guided by a person who does not speak any english.

Also important is that the volunteer travels with health insurance.

We supply rice, beans, salt sugar and oil. We recommend the volunteer to bring the food for a week (like vegetables, fruits, eggs, animal protein, etc that the volunteer usually eats). There are options to bring food up without having to go to the city, so no worries. We have a kitchen that has all the necessities for the volunteers to cook.

We kindly appreciate you commit to the time you are planing in coming.

Activities & Shift

We are looking at the moment for:

- Garden and maintenance
Here you will help us with our plant nursery, helping us with our plant collections, maintaining the garden and keeping the reserve suited for visitors walking through it.

- Wood work.
These tasks are the main ones we need at the moment, but we like to mix those with other tasks in the reserve, like gardening, English practice, maintenance, a bit of construction, etc… whatever is needed during the day.

- If you like painting murals, please let us know too =)

Rules

We have some rules for a jungle living, we will share those with you before arrival and during.
