Program Details

The type of work you will be doing will depend on the time of year you are visiting, what’s going on at our resort and is largely weather dependent. Outside work will often involve gardening, landscaping and general tending to our 60+ acres. We are in the process of building new allotments for growing veggies and we like to keep our property looking beautiful for all our visiting guests. We will also ask for help with indoor tasks such as organizing and cleaning.

Activities & Shift

In exchange for your help we offer simple shared accommodations, breakfast, lunch and dinner (mostly Italian cuisine, specializing in seasonal natural foods, seafood and pasta), internet access is available in common grounds, free use of the canoes, and loads of great memories to be had!
We ask for 5 hours of work a day 5 days a week. You will be given 2 days off a week. We try to give these 2 days off together but if we are busy we may split them.

Time off can be spent hiking, swimming, and relaxing. We live on a beautiful lake and have paddle boards, canoes and kayaks for use when they are not rented out to the public/our hotel guests. Our property is not serviced by any public transportation, so if you do not have a personal vehicle, we ask that you prepare for remote living for the duration of your stay with us. We are not within walking distance to any towns or anything but mountains and nature! If you are unsure about what you might need for your time with us, do not hesitate to ask.

Rules

RESPECTING PEOPLE AND PLACE
We would hope that it goes without saying, but we exercise zero tolerance for violence, harassment, bullying, use of illegal drugs and unsociable/inappropriate behaviour. We expect you to respect the privacy of our hotel guests and to conduct yourself responsibly, especially during hours of operations and special events/weddings. We also have many staff members living on site and for the owners and these staff, Ruby Lake is home. We ask that you respect our shared home. Ruby Lake is also home to wildlife and big, beautiful nature which we strive to protect and care for. Being kind is cool and we ask that you exercise awareness for your neighbours and the environment in which we live.
