The experience

he Bau Mela ODV association, registered with the National Register of Third Sector Organisations (Runts), has been managing since 2009 a vast mountain area subject to impoverishment and abandonment due to the rural exodus.
The association manages a vast mountainous area (70 ha), subject to phenomena of depletion and abandonment linked to rural exodus. In the year 2021, 70% of its territory was affected by the terrible fire .


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Animal Care: Help look after and take care of animals.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Tent: You will sleep in a tent at a camping site.

Program Details

The activity of the association was mainly aimed at combating the risk of erosion and at long-term planning in order to prevent such a catastrophe from reproducing.
The activity of the volunteers will consist of interventions on the woodland heritage: removal of the necromass to favor the regeneration of the Silvestri essences; arrangement of reservoirs; arrangement of rural roads, planting of new tree species, forest nurseries; general maintenance activities; hydraulic systems; weeding and scrub. The ordinary activities of the association also continue: organic and experimental gardens; Silvopastoralism, green building, naturalistic engineering.


Activities & Shift

The activity of the volunteers will consist of interventions on the forest heritage: removal of the necromass to favour the regeneration of the sylvan essences; reservoirs; rural roads; naturalistic engineering interventions such as windrows or fascinate; planting new tree essences; hydraulic planting; weeding. The daily activities that have always characterised the association continue, such as silvopastoralism, organic and experimental gardens, and green building.


Rules

The BAU MELA association is a Voluntary Organisation: all volunteers must sign the association's charter and show understanding for the spirit of inclusion that has always animated the project. All volunteers will enjoy an insurance policy in addition to the one guaranteed by the WWOOF italia membership as there is a specific compulsory policy for ETSs.
