My stay at the hostel was good :) Julius is a really nice, respectful and understanding host. He motivates you and gives you an idea of what he wants you to do. But is always open for your ideas. So if you are a person who does not like to party a lot and have a relaxing stay and a lot of time to explore the island, then I can totally recommend that host for you :))

I think the host was incredibly inappropriate. I woke up twice to him in our dorm room while we were sleeping (in an all women's dorm only for volunteers) and his reaction to my asking him why was very dismissive. His demeanor wasn't particularly respectful to begin with, and he definitely made me feel uncomfortable. I left early due to this, as I didn't feel safe staying there alone after the other volunteers left the island.

I stayed at the hostel for two weeks and the experience as a whole was very good. the hostel is welcoming and the staff who were volunteering became like family to me. Julios is very helpful and attentive, always ready to have a good chat, and P1 is probably one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Outside the Fullmoon season the island is very quiet, you see very few people on the streets, but the island is very beautiful.

Staying on Haad Rin for two weeks was a bit quiet. Up until the full moon party I painted most days and had a few days off to rent a car and see the island. Until full moon you're pretty much with yourself and the other volunteers. However despite the lack of social activities, I still loved the beach, small neighborhood, and restaurants. The tasks and schedule are incredibly flexible, but what made the entire experience was the full moon party. Enjoying the party after two weeks of being on island made it all that much better, especially having my own room to stay.

The hostel would be an awesome hostel to stay at as a guest, Julius is very present in the hostel and encourages everyone to get involved. There's free drinks and snacks in the lobby as well as games. However, I would not recommend this as a volunteer hostel for female travellers. There were 3 of us girls volunteering, staying in a room in Julius's apartment, not the hostel, and we all felt uncomfortable and ended up leaving early due to comments and insinuations that were made. For men this place would be fine, however, Julius only accepts young women as volunteers, so good luck.
