Ramadan in Tagounte: A Transformative Experience in the Heart of the Sahara

As the sacred month of Ramadan approaches, we invite you to join us for a profound and unforgettable experience here in the desert of Tagounte. This is a time of reflection, connection, and spiritual renewal—and we believe that anyone, regardless of their background, can partake in this transformative journey.

You don’t need to be Muslim to embrace the essence of Ramadan. It’s not just about fasting; it’s about the energy of the community, the stillness of the desert, and the connection to something greater. It’s about cleansing the soul, cultivating patience, and understanding the deeper rhythms of life.

Whether you choose to fast or simply share in the moments of reflection, our time together will be filled with meaningful experiences—shared meals at iftar, the quiet mornings before dawn, and the collective peace that comes when the sun sets over the vast desert. This is an opportunity to connect with the culture, the rituals, and the spirit of Ramadan in a way that transcends religion, focusing on shared human experience.

We welcome everyone to join us—no matter your culture, background, or beliefs. Come with an open heart and mind to experience a side of Morocco that will transform you.

Activities & Shift

Ramadan Activities & Reflection in the Tagounite Desert

During Ramadan in Tagounte, the rhythm of life slows down in honor of the sacred month. Activities are infused with both spiritual reflection and meaningful contributions to our sustainable lifestyle.

Morning (8:00 - 12:00):
Work on the farm or help with traditional mud brick-making, fostering a deep connection with the land. The quiet mornings offer a chance to reflect and embrace the stillness of the desert.

Afternoon (12:00 - 15:00):
Time for rest, self-reflection, and preparing for the evening. This is a time to connect with the spirit of Ramadan—whether through meditation, learning, or simply appreciating the desert’s peace.

Evening (15:00 - 18:00):
Assist in preparing the communal iftar meal. This shared moment of breaking fast brings together different backgrounds, where culture, tradition, and stories are exchanged under the stars.

Each day, Ramadan is an opportunity not only to contribute to the farm and community but to engage deeply with spiritual practices, cultural traditions, and a profound sense of togetherness.

Rules

Our Community Guidelines & Values

In our home, we believe in respect, openness, and connection. We ask that all volunteers embrace these values to create a harmonious and inclusive environment.
• Respect All Identities: We are LGBTQ+ friendly and celebrate the diversity of all cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. Be yourself, and honor others for who they are.
• Embrace the Spirit of Ramadan: If you join during Ramadan, whether fasting or not, be mindful of the sacredness of the month. It’s a time for reflection, connection, and growth.
• Community Mindset: Our space is communal. Share, listen, and engage respectfully with fellow volunteers and hosts.
• Sustainable Living: We cherish the earth. Be conscious of resources—minimize waste and embrace simple, sustainable practices.
• Work & Participation: Volunteers are asked to contribute 4-5 hours a day in various tasks like farming, building, and cultural exchange.
• Mindful of the Environment: The desert environment can be intense. Stay hydrated, respect the land, and be aware of your well-being in the heat.
• Safety & Comfort: Look after your health, both physical and mental. If you need time or space, communicate openly with the team.

By living with respect and mindfulness, we can create a space that not only sustains us physically but nourishes our spirits.
