Great volunteering experience! It's also a good place to try volunteering for the first time. Sadly I did not reach as much as I expected but the students are so cute and eager to learn! Everyone at the homestay is so welcoming and tries to make sure you have a good time. It was such a good opportunity to get to know the culture of Lombok and I am so thankful for that. I will definitely miss the music sessions in the evening. See you soon ✨

The project is a host association initiative to bring guest to exchange language and experience with kids and the community. As a music volunteer I practiced pop songs with Mr Ahyak and friends to perform on the farewell party. They provide a lot of flexibility, after the performance I got to teach a class and share with one of the teachers. This was the highlight for me and getting to share with other volunteers. If you are a light sleeper make sure to bring your earplugs as the call to player is loud and starts very early. I stayed in the guesthouse and the view to the lodge was so beautiful

I definitely recommend this experience; giving classes to the kids was amazing, they have so much energy and passion. It made me fill so fulfilled. They also organize activities for you to explore the island before your classes. My recommendation tho is to plan everything directly with mr ahyak. We organized an activity with his nephew and at the end of the day we felt like we were scammed, which is a common experience for tourists you just don't expect it in a place where you're volunteering. Definitely bring earplugs for the night, it can be quite noisy at night.

I was disappointed with the lack of structure around this program. Aside from the 2 hours of volunteering I did, there wasn't much to do during the day so I felt bored. You can sing with Ahyak and his family at night but I wish there was a more structured activity to participate in during the day. I also found the meals they provided to be quite small. Lastly, the rice the lodge cottage is not clean. There were holes in my bed sheets and I found 4 cockroaches in my bathroom one night.

I truely am deeply grateful for my experience with mr Ayak, his family and community. I learned so much about the importance of community, sustainable tourism and local culture. I was warmly welcomed by everyone I met. I highly recommend to everyone to try this experience. For my first time volunteering this was a beautiful learning experience. The home stay I stayed at was run by Mr Ayak's brother's family. Mr Ayak has about 100 different home stays that he helps promote for tourism. I now feel like I have a family in Lombok now.

Ahyak and his family are incredibly warm and welcoming, and made sure that I was comfortable and had what I needed. Moreover, I was introduced to various different communities that my host is involved in which was very insightful and valuable. Ahyak's nephews were happy to drive me to places and show me around the island. I got to explore different parts of Lombok, meet locals and really dive into the local culture and environment, away from the typical touristy hotspots. This was such an enriching experience that I will not forget. A massive thank you to Ahyak and his family for welcoming me.

My experience here was fantastic, I have learnt so much about sustainable tourism and it is brilliant to see how Ahyak engages with his community. His family, Mas Jho, Opan and Ryan were brilliant. I felt so at home and made to feel like family. Meeting the local people was really interesting and the students are so eager to learn. Thank you Ahyak and your family I am really grateful for the opportunity! :)

I had a great experience at the lodge. The children are lovely & were motivated to learn & very respectful in our interactions. The teachers want to make the most out of the opportunity & are very dedicated to their students. I enjoyed all our lessons and interactions and enjoyed watching their progress. All in all, a rewarding and fun experience. I also enjoyed time spent with my host family and being able to see some of Lombok which is a beautiful island. I had fun doing things with the local community and wish my host and his family all the best with this great project.
