Work Exchange at an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Hostel in Cape Town
The experience
We’re looking for passionate, open-hearted volunteers to support daily operations and infuse the space with creativity and care:
– Welcome guests and help create a warm, inclusive vibe
– Assist with check-ins, basic housekeeping, and shared space upkeep
– Support community events, from dinners to queer movie nights
– Bring your talents! Whether it’s art, hospitality, events, social media, etc. — we celebrate your gifts!
What you offer
25 hours of help per week
Party Promoter:
Help organise and promote parties and social activities.
Cleaning:
Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.
Night Shift:
Help with night shift tasks and create a relaxing environment for guests.
Reception:
Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.
What you get
2 days off per week
Team Dorm:
You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.
Free Laundry:
You can use our laundry room freely.
Use our equipped kitchen:
Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.
Fast Internet Access:
High-speed internet for you to work remotely
Dedicated Workspace:
Specific space for you to work remotely
Requirements
Fluent English
Between 18 and 35 years old
Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Who You Are:
- A people person who enjoys hospitality and community vibes
- Comfortable working independently and providing customer service
- Responsible, communicative, and detail-oriented
- LGBTQ+ inclusive and aligned with Soul Fam’s inclusive values
- Ideally available for at least 1 month (longer stays welcome!)

- You keep the guests engaged and connect them with the local community
- You provide fun opportunities for guests to meet and interact with each other
- You ensure each guest feels seen and connected to the social culture within the hostel
- You make sure guests have a memorable and fun experience throughout their stay

- You’ve worked or volunteered in a hostel before
- You love helping guests discover local gems
- You speak another language
- You are passionate about event planning
Activities & Shift
What You'll Do:
- Work part-time, 25 hours per week (flexible shifts)
- Welcome and check in/out guests with warmth and professionalism
- Manage bookings and respond to emails/phone messages
- Share local tips, answer questions and help guests feel at home
- Keep common areas tidy and inviting
- Coordinate daily hostel events to keep guests engaged
- Represent Soul Fam core values of inclusion, community, and sustainability
Rules
The Participant agrees to comply with all Soul Fam Hostel policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
● Respecting the privacy and diversity of guests and fellow hosts.
● Maintaining a clean, respectful and safe living environment.
● Refraining from inviting external guests without approval.
● Adhering to local laws and regulations.
