The experience

Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Development (ECD) Volunteer to support our efforts in integrating ECD principles into our child protection programs. The volunteer will work closely with our team to ensure that young children (0-8 years) in vulnerable communities have access to the care, stimulation, and protection they need to thrive. This role is ideal for someone with a background in early childhood


What you offer

18 hours of help per week

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Teaching Sports: Teaching or assisting the host, guests, or local communities in practicing sports or physical activities.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

Program Details

The Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program at Stop Child Abuse (SCA) focuses on promoting the holistic development of children aged 0-8 years while safeguarding them from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The program integrates child protection strategies with ECD principles to ensure that children grow up in safe, nurturing, and stimulating environments.
Through community-based initiatives, caregiver education, and child-friendly spaces, the program aims to:
Enhance children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
Empower parents and caregivers with knowledge and skills to provide responsive care and prevent abuse.
Strengthen community systems to identify, report, and respond to child protection concerns.
Volunteers play a critical role in supporting the implementation of this program, working directly with children, families, and communities to create lasting change.


Activities & Shift

Key Activities:
Child-Centered Activities:
Facilitate play-based learning sessions, storytelling, and early literacy/numeracy activities.
Organize arts, crafts, and games that promote cognitive and social development.
Provide psychosocial support to children in distress.
Caregiver and Community Engagement:
Assist in conducting workshops on positive parenting, child development, and child abuse prevention.
Participate in community awareness campaigns to promote child rights and protection.
Capacity Building:
Support training sessions for local staff, volunteers, and community members on ECD and child protection.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Help collect data on program activities and outcomes.
Report any signs of child abuse or neglect to the SCA team.
Shifts:
Morning Shift: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (e.g., facilitating ECD activities for children).
Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (e.g., caregiver workshops or community outreach).
Flexible Shifts: Volunteers can choose shifts based on their availability (minimum commitment of 2 shifts per week).


Rules

General Rules for Volunteers:
Commitment: Volunteers must commit to the agreed-upon schedule and notify the team in advance if unable to attend.
Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children’s and families’ personal information.
Child Safeguarding: Adhere to SCA’s child protection policies, including:
Never be alone with a child without another adult present.
Reporting any concerns about child abuse or neglect immediately.
Treating all children with respect and dignity.
Professional Conduct:
Dress appropriately and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
Avoid any behavior that could be perceived as harmful or inappropriate.
Respect for Culture: Be sensitive to the cultural norms and practices of the communities you work with.
Health and Safety: Follow all health and safety guidelines, including COVID-19 protocols if applicable.
Feedback and Improvement: Participate in regular feedback sessions to improve program delivery and volunteer experience.
Code of Conduct:
Volunteers must sign and adhere to SCA’s Volunteer Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policy
Any violation of these rules may result in immediate termination of the volunteer role.
