Program Details
A farm is a dynamic, fluctuating environment requiring effort and dealing with surprises. Living systems have to be maintained without any excuses.
These systems include crops, gardens, and food forests with water schedules, and animal systems requiring at different times - feeding, watering, cleaning, checking, moving and maintenance. Compost building and distribution; planting and pruning; milking; and birthing assistance; much walking and perhaps some climbing are all on the cards on a large scale permaculture farm.
Emergencies may arise from time to time, and this may require one or all hands on deck, to deal with the situation until handled, at any possible time of the day or night.
We look for safe and sensible people who are proactive and understand the gravity of dealing with active farm life, it's potential difficulties, but incredibly rich, diverse, rewarding and educational opportunities.
Activities & Shift
As a general rule, shifts start in the early morning, until tasks are completed.
Flexibility in timings are available in order to facilitate other activities, so long as life-essential tasks are covered.
If volunteers wish to do the minimum four hours required, they are expected to provide their own food.
If volunteers wish to do at least 6 hours daily and get more deeply involved and responsible with farm operations, then food will be supplied with which they can prepare meals in the kitchen facilities provided, as well as partake in communal meals when invited.
Rules
A minimum stay of 2 months is required to truly learn about permaculture and experience the project in its full capacity.
