The experience
Are you passionate about making a lasting impact? As a Community Fundraising Specialist with the Soweto Youth Initiative (SYI), you’ll play a key role in supporting and sustaining projects that directly uplift the youth and families of Soweto, Nairobi. Working closely with the SYI team, you’ll help identify and develop innovative fundraising strategies to attract donors, secure grants, and engage supporters locally and globally.

Soweto Youth Initiative is a nonprofit that relies on donations to sustain its programs. Your contribution helps cover essential costs like meals, accommodation, utilities, and resources for the children. This support ensures we can continue making a positive impact while providing you with a meaningful volunteer experience.

What you get

Shared Dorm:
You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Program Details
The Community Fundraising Specialist Program at Soweto Youth Initiative (SYI) is designed for passionate individuals who want to make a tangible impact by supporting a grassroots organization in Nairobi's Soweto slum. This program focuses on equipping volunteers with the skills and experience needed to raise funds, attract donors, and secure grants to sustain and expand SYI’s vital community projects. Participants will work closely with local leaders and other volunteers to develop innovative fundraising strategies that align with SYI’s mission of empowering youth and transforming lives.
Activities & Shift
Research and identify potential donors, grants, and sponsorship opportunities.
Develop creative and engaging fundraising campaigns (both online and offline).
Draft compelling proposals, pitches, and presentations for funding.
Organize and coordinate local and virtual fundraising events.
Build and maintain relationships with donors and supporters.
Collaborate with the SYI team to design strategies that align with the organization’s goals.
Monitor and report on the progress of fundraising initiatives.
Create social media and marketing content to promote fundraising efforts.
