Join us in transforming the lives of young children in Mwanza by welcoming them to the Free Community Children’s Play Hub. Here, kids like 3-year-old Kevin, who often face loneliness and unsafe environments, find a safe haven filled with opportunities to play, learn, and thrive. 🌈✨

At the hub, children discover the joy of structured play, make new friends, and explore their passions in a nurturing and inspiring environment.


What you offer

5 hours of help per day

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Teaching Sports: Teaching or assisting the host, guests, or local communities in practicing sports or physical activities.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.


What you get

3 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Requirements

Intermediate English or Beginner French

Between 18 and 80 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Our volunteer program is designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment for young children in Mwanza who would otherwise be left to roam the streets. Volunteers play a key role in helping children engage in creative activities, educational games, and structured play, all while ensuring their safety and well-being. Volunteers will assist our facilitators in running various activities that encourage learning, social interaction, and personal growth. Through this program, volunteers help shape the futures of the children by offering them the opportunity to explore their interests and develop important skills.


Activities & Shift

Volunteers will be involved in the following activities:

Assisting in Play and Learning: Lead and assist children in creative activities such as arts and crafts, storytelling, music, and physical games.
Facilitating Group Activities: Support group games and structured play that promote social skills, teamwork, and communication.
Meal Assistance: Help with the distribution of nutritious meals and snacks to the children, ensuring proper hygiene and safety standards are followed.
One-on-One Support: Offer individual guidance to children who need extra attention, whether in play, learning, or emotional support.
Monitoring Safety: Ensure that all children are safe and supervised at all times, providing a calm and caring presence.
Wednesdays and Saturdays
Morning Shift: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Volunteers can choose either shift or commit to both days. Flexibility is encouraged.


Rules

Respect for Children and Staff: Treat all children and staff members with kindness, respect, and professionalism at all times.
Punctuality: Volunteers are expected to arrive on time and stay for the full shift. If you cannot attend, please notify the coordinator in advance.
Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of all children and their families. Any personal information shared should remain confidential.
Safety First: Ensure that all children are supervised and safe during activities. Always adhere to safety protocols and report any concerns immediately.
Active Participation: Volunteers are encouraged to be actively involved in activities, modeling positive behavior, and engaging with the children in a supportive and caring manner.
Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and tidy environment, especially when working with children during meals or arts and crafts activities.
