Program Details
The project is run by Pastor Aswani and Linet, who founded the organization in 2012. They were inspired to create a safe home for children with disabilities after being driven out by their community when they had their beloved son Samuel, born with cerebral palsy. They seek to educate their community about acceptance and love towards childeals and snacks, a safe place to sleep, education and physical therapy. The government doesn't help ren with special needs. Our project has since accepted over a thousand intakes with varying backgrounds. Most children are living on the street when they approach our shelter. We currently house 84 children but regularly accept new intakes. 11 of these children have special needs, including ADHD, cerebral palsy and hydro encephalitis. We provide 3 daily mus, we don't charge fees to volunteers, children or families and we're 100% volunteer run.
Activities & Shift
Volunteering shifts begin at 10 am, but there's some flexibility. You can contribute in a variety of ways and can feel free to get creative! Some ways you can help include:
- Teaching one of our regular classes, such as math, English, history, science and more (this only applies for the school semesters.)
- Introducing a class of your own according to your interests (yoga, sports, etc.)
- Playing games with the kids.
- Physical therapy if you have a license.
- Job coaching, CV and scholarship writing to older children.
- Hanging out.
- Mental health coaching.
- Feeding kids; some need assistance with eating.
- Cleaning.
- Fundraising, grant writing and content creation like social media posts and videos.
Volunteers stay at Pastor Aswani and Linet's private residence. Breakfast is provided at home and lunch and dinner are provided at the center.
