Permaculture Assistant in Costa Rica
The experience
This path of Service offers a unique opportunity to learn ancient practices from indigenous people related to regenerative agriculture, such as organic soil production, reforestation, and greenhouse/farming.
This path is a beautiful way to develop a deeper understanding of the interconnectivity of creation. Moderate physical exertion is required within an often hot, rainy and humid climate.
A requirement of 20 Service hours a week is desired
What you offer
20 hours of help per week
Cleaning:
Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.
Animal Care:
Help look after and take care of animals.
Farming:
Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.
Gardening:
Help grow plants and cultivate gardens
What you get
2 days off per week
Private Room:
You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.
Tent:
You will sleep in a tent at a camping site.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.
Lunch:
You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.
Dinner:
You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.
Free Laundry:
You can use our laundry room freely.
Free Hiking Tours:
We’ll take you on excursions and hikes around town. For free!
Yoga classes:
Take free yoga classes at our place.
Dance classes:
Take free dance classes at our place.
Holistic Therapies:
You can take part in any of our therapeutic activities for free.
Use our equipped kitchen:
Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.
Requirements
Intermediate English or Beginner Spanish
Between 18 and 75 years old
Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details
We offer weather-proofed tents with electricity and wifi and beds/bedding, access to 200 acres of lush jungle and waterfalls, and delicious organic fruits, vegetables and eggs from the land in exchange for 20 hours of service in our greenhouses, soil production center and chicken coop. Service guests are welcomed to join or create offerings in our community such as ecstatic dance, yoga, breath work and more. Community development and integration efforts are welcomed and appreciated. At times there me be service opportunities to support in our holistic retreat center. We do not offer prepared meals, however, we have a large kitchen for service guests where they can prepare meals with food from the land (fruits of their labor).
Activities & Shift
Permaculture shifts are generally in early mornings during the week: 6-10am 5 days/week; one shift is preferred Sunday-Friday to support the needs of our chickens; Permaculture may include planting and caring for 3 greenhouses, harvesting fruits and managing the community food production pick up days; caring for the chickens, and higher level projects for those fluent in Spanish. Service in the retreat center and Community Sun temple vary; activities include behind the scene booking and managing events and retreats, cleaning and preparing the retreat space/events, assisting in the kitchen for large groups, cleaning, and interacting with retreat guests in a hospitality capacity; guest are also welcome to offer their own unique gifts to the community in our Sun Temple. All positions are supported by Holos staff (training and oversight)
