The experience

We’re looking for creative and organized volunteers with skills in content creation, digital Elm on the Beach is a family-run beachfront hotel and resort in beautiful Kitaibaraki. We’re expanding and renovating, and now we need help with updating our online presence and spreading the word to travelers across the world.


What you offer

6 hours of help per day

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

Administration: Help with booking systems and payments.


What you get

2 days off per week

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Surfboards: You can use our surfboards as much as you want.

Surf lessons: Take free surf classes at the local beaches.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Fast Internet Access: High-speed internet for you to work remotely

Dedicated Workspace: Specific space for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English

Between 21 and 35 years old

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

Program Details

🎯 Volunteer Role: Content Creator & Platform Assistant

We’re looking for creative and organized volunteers with skills in content creation, digital media, or basic tech. You’ll help us showcase the unique charm of our hotel and nearby attractions across various booking and social platforms.

💼 Your Tasks
• Take and edit updated photos/videos of the hotel, beach, and common areas
• Update listings on travel platforms like Booking.com, Agoda, Hostelworld, etc.
• Manage media content and assist with YouTube video creation
• Help update and maintain our official website
• Organize files and assist with translation or text edits (if bilingual)

🎬 Bonus Skills (not required, but appreciated!)
• Photography / videography
• Drone footage experience
• SEO or web design
• Social media management (Instagram, YouTube)
• Japanese/English translation

Activities & Shift

Accommodation: Free lodging provided for the duration of the volunteer period.
Meals: Enjoy delicious breakfast and lunch during your working days. Please note that we don't provide food during your day-off. But the there is a 7/11 store as well as a very nice beach for surfing.
Community Engagement: Become part of a welcoming community that values your contributions.
Recreational Activities: Access to amenities such as surfboard rentals and opportunities for beachside relaxation as well bikes and climbing

Location: Elm on the Beach – Kitaibaraki, Japan
Duration: Minimum 2 weeks (longer stays welcome!)
Hours: 6 hours/day, 5 days/week
Days off: 2 days/week
Accommodation: Shared volunteer room
Meals: 2 meals/day on working days (no meals on days off)

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, please adhere to the following rules during your stay at

General Conduct
Respect: Treat fellow volunteers, staff, guests, and local residents with kindness and respect.
Punctuality: Be on time for all scheduled tasks and activities.
Communication: Report any issues, delays, or questions to the coordinator promptly.
Quiet Hours: Observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM to respect the comfort of others.
Work Expectations
Commitment: Fulfill your agreed-upon tasks and hours (usually 6 hours per day, 5 days a week).
Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other volunteers and staff members.
Responsibility: Handle tools, equipment, and resources with care. Report damages immediately.

Cleanliness: Keep your sleeping area and communal spaces clean and tidy.
