The volunteers' service also extends to therapeutic dimensions. In the owner-animal relationship, they become mediators capable of creating a comfortable environment that reduces the risk of loneliness. The animals themselves also become intermediaries when placed in a collective setting: “For society, they play an important role as mediators in therapeutic and rehabilitative processes,” explains Bortolotti.

Activities & Shift
The Pet's Family House is twinned with the CRAS, Centers for the Recovery of Wild Animals, dedicated to hedgehogs at the facility in Genoa on Via ai Laghetti di Mulinetti in Nervi (currently being renovated) and at the Eremo di Bubbio (AT), where volunteers can also stay for short periods and experience nature alongside the dogs already present, as well as goats and donkeys rescued from a predetermined fate. Additionally, thanks to donations from the Civil Protection of Genoa, “we have received medical supplies, devices repurposed from special waste into useful material. They are now used in shelters throughout Italy against African swine fever.”
