I really enjoyed my time at the hostel!! Agnes is the cutest little town, a great place to learn to surf and chill out for a while. The hostel itself is really nice, probably my favorite in all of aus. The work is fair, it's only 2 hours a day, but it's also important to da good job and follow this cleaning list as this isn't the place to slack off. The other girls were all so sweet and I made some really good friends during my stay. Thanks to Scott and Holly for your hospitality!!

My time in the hostel was amazing and I met lots of great people! It is a really social and fun place, and it's kept incredibly tidy and clean (by volunteers). Scott is generous, likes to have fun and, as long as he is happy, everyone will be too. Personally, I didn't have any problems and felt always involved in everything, which made me feel comfortable, but I do think communication aspects could be improved regarding tasks and expectations. My advice in those terms is to always ask anything you slightly doubt about to avoid problems. Overall, it was a nice and positive experience!

Hi Trini, thanks for the advice. but not the first time it was a daily thing on multiple subjects sitting reading a book while the job's not being done.

Agnes Water is the perfect place to enjoy the beach and improve surf skills. The team of volunteers was great and made my stay memorable. In my opinion, the main problem with this experience was communication. I found that the tone used by the host to make comments was often threatening. In addition, even with to-do lists, tasks, priorities, and expectations changed regularly without notice. For these reasons, I sometimes felt stressed and uncomfortable in the work environment. I sincerely believe this place could be amazing if a more positive and non-violent communication was put in place.

My experience at the hostel was overall positive. The hostel itself is beautiful, and the tasks are straightforward. The people here are friendly and welcoming. However, I felt uncomfortable with the communication style of the owner. His passive-aggressive behavior and derogatory comments led to an uneasy feeling. I felt that my work was not appreciated and that only professional performance was expected. I constantly felt supervised and was scared that I might do something wrong, which would result in him getting angry. This aspect was not to my liking.

I was a receptionist, and while the job wasn't difficult, the work environment was stressful. The host expects things to be done a certain way but doesn't listen to feedback or questions when mistakes happen. This made me uneasy, and I did forget some tasks. He eventually let me go. I don't think my mistakes warranted that since they were reversible, but I was relieved since only the work aspect was difficult. As a guest, I really enjoyed my stay. Scott and Holly are generous and very involved in making sure the place is welcoming. I made great friends and don't regret coming at all.

I had a great time at the hostel. It's a beautiful place with nice sitting areas both inside and outside. Close to the beach and a lot of great people. The tasks are easy, just follow the list and you'll be good. The host would often give drinks or make food for everyone which was very nice! Must say that I would've preferred a better communication from his side, never really know when the bomb goes off. Unfortunately that made it a bit uncomfortable and you were scared of making a mistake. Not nice with yelling and bad vibes. But with that being said, I did enjoy my time there!

Hi Camille, Constantly telling you and your friend Gry to clean up your mess isn't yelling there is a big difference sorry no curtains to much washing as people wipe all sorts of things on them. Glad you enjoyed all the free food and alcohol.

I had an amazing time here, the job was easy and the team was amazing! The Owner on the other hand, had some serious communication issues, and would snap and yell at the volunteers if everything wasn't done exactly after his head at all times- that meant that everyone was walking on eggshells around him, and constantly felt watched… highly unprofessional. But the place is good and the team was amazing, and when the owner had his good days he was fun, and made free meals and drinks, this created a tight team and I had a great time there - Agnes water is a small but awesome town.

Hi Gry, hahaha you walking on eggshells I had to speak to you nearly every day about doing the job properly and telling you all you need to do is read the list top to bottom I forgot is a poor excuse to not do the job and sneaking off way before your time was up I don't need to watch I live here and walk around my house with my eyes open so I do notice when things aren't done properly or at all in your case . I'm Glad you enjoyed all the free food and alcohol I provided

It's so hard to rate this experience. I would really love to rate it much higher, the time spent here with the other volunteers was truly lovely. Unfortunately though, the way the host acted towards the people working with me and our guests, was at times very difficult to be around. A small example being when I saw people make simple mistakes, such as leaving possessions lying around, it was met with behaviour from the host such as smashing up a cooler box into the fire pit in anger and shouting/ threatening to fire people because of similar transgressions. This felt very irrational

Overall I had a great time, there's good vibes and I made amazing friends. Scot truly treats the staff like his kids; he looks out for us, cooks free food, organises parties and free drinks; but also can be patronising and feel like an uncomfortable power dynamic. I struggled with Scot and Holly's communication, there was no room for discussion or hearing both sides of things and they delt with things unprofessionally and reacted out of proportion to genuine mistakes. Saying this, I really enjoyed our time there and am so sad to leave, just wish conflicts could have been delt with more calmly.

no need to hear both sides when you treat the place like a rubbish dump running around the hostel late at night squealing like a child and ignoring the warnings. How many warnings and talks need to happen before you think of other people. genuine mistakes 4 nights out of 7 is not so genuine was like a revolving door and yes you and others tested my patience constantly very disrespectful especially after I did so much for you and others

The host and his daughter were very friendly and made me feel very welcome. The other volunteers and guests were very friendly and we had lots of fun doing games, watching movies and going to the local sports bar on a Saturday evening. Agnes water is a very beautiful small town with beautiful nature. I saw some kangaroos in the wild which was fantastic. The beach is beautiful and is great if you want to learn how to surf.
