A few days at a Buddhist Monastery with monks

I spent just four days at the monastery with the monks. On Sunday, I had the opportunity to go to the Center school, where there were lots of children to talk to and teach them English. I visited a beautiful temple and enjoyed the village and the surrounding nature. In the evening, I had excellent meditation. The food was also delicious... authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. I truly enjoyed the peace and relaxation. Highly recommended.

Priceless. this experience was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, i already hope to plan another trip back. if anyone is thinking about coming to visit this temple, i 1000% recommend it to anyone. you feel like a fly on the wall in the local life and its the most authentic experience you could have here. i learned so much more about Buddhism and meditation. i'm leaving this place with a full and grateful heart. the facilities are wonderful, life is simple, and you won't regret a visit here. i can't wait to return to Sri lanka. Thank you for everything

It was an amazing stay! The facilities are modern and the food they serve is really rich and delicious! You actually don't have to work anything, if you want, you can help the English teacher at the local school nearby. The monks showed us some temples and we meditated together. The only thing I can critisize is that we could not learn about buddhism itself, the monk who organises this stay is currently not in Sri Lanka, and the other monks are really kind and willing to help but their English is bad, so they couldn''t answer our questions or explain something about their culture.

Bhante Wasa, Bhante Vihari and Bhante Sara gave me such a warm welcome and I felt instantly welcome. I had the opportunity to learn a lot about life as a monk and about Buddhism. Each day was filled with wonderful activities like cooking and dance classes, temple visits and volunteering at schools to support English lessons. The daily traditional meals were also absolutely delicious! I'm truly grateful for this meaningful experience and can highly recommend the project to anyone. Thank you for this enriching experience!

I had an amazing time at the Center Temple! We had lots of time to relax and a perfect amount of activities like visiting temples and a monk school to teach English, a cooking class and a house ceremony. Bhante Vihara and Siri showed us around in the village and took great care of us volunteers. We learned a lot about Buddhism and also a bit about meditation, which was interesting. I felt very welcome and had the best food!! It was a great start into my Sri Lanka trip. Thanks you!

I absolutely loved my stay at the temple. It is an amazing opportunity to learn about buddhism, to immerse into their life and the local culture, to be in touch with the local people and lots of kids. I had the opportunity to teach english (it was mostly playing games and speaking english to them) at the sunday school, government school and monk school, it was an unforgettable experience. Thanks to banthe Vihara and banthe Dammasara for their kindness and patience. I will miss Nanda and Seela's big smile :)

I spent one unforgettable week at the Center Temple for my first Worldpackers experience, and it was truly life-changing. I was immersed in the beauty of the Center lifestyle—visiting sacred temples, participating in ceremonies, and meditating alongside the monks. Everyone I met was incredibly kind and welcoming, making me feel right at home from the start. One of the most meaningful parts of my stay was teaching English to the monks and joining their Sunday school during the New Year celebration. It was a true honor to share and learn in such a rich cultural exchange.

I stayed at Bhante Wasa's temple for 2 nights. My stay was so lovely. I had amazing food both at home and at ceremonies that I've joined thanks to my hosts. I didn't know what we would be doing most of the time, so things felt spontaneous and I think knowing a liittle bit about the schedule would help. But I really enjoyed everything I did in the end. 🙏 I got to meditate with the other temple's monk as well. And the highlight of my stay was definitely the Sunday school! It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life 🤍 I am so grateful for this opportunity. 100% recommended.

Thanks a lot for the lovely words. We will definitely meet one day. We are also opening a meditation center in Berlin soon.

The five days I spent at the temple were amazing. I didn't stay only at Sambuddaloka Temple—I also joined another temple several times, where I had the opportunity to practice meditation and attend ceremonies. It was a truly enriching experience, and if I return to Sri Lanka, I would be delighted to spend a few more days with them!

Staying with the monks in the Center temple has been my favourite travel experience yet! Their openness, generosity and hospitality is unmatched! I have never felt so taken care of in my life. They truly immersed us in the culture by taking us out to local events, ceremonies, home towns and providing the yummiest food I've ever had whilst traveling. The lessons I learnt on the Center way of life and philosophy will stay with me forever. Giving back our time to the local Sunday school and teaching the younger monks English made me feel like I was doing something worth doing. Loved it
