Program Details

Your main responsibility is being present throughout the school day, communicating with students and delivering activities in English language and occasionally helping to prepare activities or tasks for the next day or for homework before the weekends. More rarely, you may be asked to help with afternoon classes if Nisansala is engaged with other important tasks.

Activities & Shift

Daily Routines
Morning:
• At around 8:10-8:15 am Teacher Ushari will start the song for morning prayer in front of the school building. Students shall stand quietly with their hands folded in front of them.
• Morning prayer is followed by the national anthem as well as the schools anthem. Students shall stand with their hands down.
• Teachers and Volunteers sing and “exercise” (which is really more dancing) together with the students. As of March 2024 we sing the following songs:
o Wheels on the bus
o If you happy and you know it
o Shake
Note: These songs can all be found downloaded on the school computer.

• Before heading to the classrooms, Volunteers wish a “Good morning” to the students and they sing the “Good morning song”
• Followed by a clapping rhythm. Ask Nisansala to show you the clap before your first day.

Rules

KGIS and Volunteer’s Room
 It is important that the Volunteer's Room and kitchen are kept tidy and clean. At times, you may need to share the space, and to ensure everyone's comfort, a certain level of tidiness is necessary, as well as respecting each other's space.
 We ask volunteers to maintain basic hygiene standards, which include showering and brushing their teeth daily, using deodorant, and regularly washing and changing clothes.
 Smoking is strictly prohibited inside or around any KGIS facilities. Please understand that we are located within a school.

If you don’t feel like this is a good fit and would like to pursue other opportunities, it is completely understandable. We just ask for at least 2 days' notice before leaving. This allows us time to plan and get new volunteers if needed
