The experience

Do you love animals, enjoy cooking, and dream of living in the heart of the Amazon rainforest? 🌱✨ Join us in our mission to protect and rehabilitate rescued wildlife while also helping to nourish the people who make it possible.

We are looking for a volunteer who enjoys cooking and bringing new ideas to the table to support our local cook. Your role will help ensure that staff and volunteers receive healthy, delicious meals during their stay.


What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Cooking: Choose the menu, pick ingredients and cook delicious dishes.

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Kitchen Hand: Help prepare, finish and serve meals.


What you get

2 days off per week

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Intermediate English or Beginner Spanish

Between 20 and 40 years old

Program Details

This is a hands-on program where you will directly contribute to the well-being of people in our rescue center while learning about Amazonian wildlife conservation, community outreach and the region culture.

Activities & Shift

Schedule:

From 7:00 am to 12:00 pm, assist with preparing lunch and dinner.

From 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, help make sure dinner is ready and served.

The rest of the time, you’re free to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the rescue center or, if you wish, learn about the care of wild animals, visit communities or peaceful places around.

⏱️ Commitment: ~30 hours per week, with 2 days off to rest or explore the beautiful surroundings of Iquitos.

As a volunteer supporting our kitchen, you will:
Assist our cook in preparing daily meals (lunch and dinner) for staff and volunteers.
Help staff and volunteers to know where to go o what to do to prepare breakfast.
Help with washing, chopping, and organizing fresh ingredients.
Suggest and prepare new, creative, and nutritious dishes to add variety to our menu, being aware of the budget.
Ensure meals are well-balanced, tasty, and served on time.
Help keep the kitchen clean and organized, including washing dishes and sanitizing work areas.
Assist with portioning and serving meals to staff and volunteers.
Occasionally purchase or help organize local ingredients when needed.
Support with storing food properly and minimizing waste.

This role is essential to the wellbeing of everyone at the center, as good meals keep our team energized to care for the animals and maintain the project’s activities.


Rules

To ensure safety for both animals and people, we follow a strict biosafety and coexistence protocol, which will be shared before arrival.

-Respect the wild animals at all times β€” no direct handling.
-Follow the instructions of the staff.
-Maintain hygiene and cleanliness in all shared areas.
-Respect the community, fellow volunteers, and the environment.
-We don't accept adoption of street dogs or cats, as we care of wild animals, crossed contamination is a huge risk, do not insist!
