The experience

Seeking a volunteer with high-level gardening skills for a hostel restaurant garden in El Valle Samana. Responsibilities include garden maintenance, planting/harvesting, some construction, and occasional hospitality support. Enjoy the tropical environment and contribute to sustainable practices while collaborating with kitchen staff.


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens


What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Intermediate English or Intermediate Spanish

Between 18 and 40 years old

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

Program Details

Responsibilities:
1. Garden Maintenance:
- Maintain and nurture plants, flowers, and trees in the hotel's/restaurant garden.
- Watering, pruning, weeding, and pest control as needed.
- Implementing sustainable gardening practices.

2. Planting and Harvesting:
- Plant seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruits for the hostel restaurant.
- Assist in harvesting produce for use in the restaurant.

3. Hospitality Support:
- Occasionally assist with customer interactions, providing information about the garden and its produce.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to integrate garden produce into the restaurant menu.

4. Garden Development:
- Propose and implement improvements to the garden layout and design.
- Work with the hostel management to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of the garden.

5. Carpentry and occasional cabin construction work
