Welcome to our Mud house in Tagounite Morocco
The experience
Marhaba to all! Our life is like A masterpiece of simplicity and expression, the clay buildings cleverly negotiates various pragmatic and emotive elements of the real desert experience. (The Berber’s) weren’t thinking about making something that looked a certain way, they were thinking, ‘Where is the sun, the wind? What is the structure’s purpose within its environment?’ That’s why their buildings have remained over time. Likewise, at Tagounite.

Shared beliefs & core values
We believe that having strong values is very important as we want to
ensure everyone we welcome feels safe, happy and free to be
themselves.
We want to make sure that those values are respected by us and by
everyone in the house:
● Respect: we have no tolerance for any sort of disrespect towards
anyone and if anything happens, please report it to Mohamed.
● Open & clear communication: we want everyone to feel free talking
about anything. We know that with the language barrier, sometimes we
say and mean something, but the person we say it to understands
something else, that’s normal, be comfortable repeating it or say that you
didn’t understand :-).
● Positive vibe: we know life here is likely very different from what you
know and it can take some time to adjust. Feel free to have your own time
or talk to us or other volunteers if you need to.
Activities & Shift
Practical information
● Tagounite has one main street where you can find most shops.
● Tagounite has a few cafes that are very nice!
○ Cafe Belle-Ville: the owner is a friend, and his cafe has good wifi.
You can go and enjoy a fresh orange juice, a coffee or Moroccan tea
at the terrace!
○ Cafe La Gazelle: the owner is also a friend, so you can also go and
enjoy some nice drinks at the terrace.
● Tagounite souk is open on Thursdays and Sundays in the morning until
about 1pm.
● There is one hammam in Tagounite and others in its surroundings. In
Tagonite it is a really local hammam, great for the experience, but keep in
mind that it is basic with buckets of water and a really good scrub ;-).
● Mohamed can help organize desert excursions if you are interested, don’t
hesitate to talk to him about it!
Rules
House rules
Be prepared to forget about how you usually plan and organize your
days at home, because we do it very differently here!
A few things to keep in mind:
● Respect water: Water is a precious resource in the desert. Our farm requires a well for access to water, which is essential.
● No strict plan for the day: we are not used to doing to-do lists here of
what we want to do. We like to decide on the spot what we do during the
day but we are happy to plan ahead if you want to do something specific
:-).
● Work time: We are not strict about the total hours we want volunteers to
