The experience

Welcome to the Empowering Young Minds Volunteer Program, a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children in rural Uganda. Located in Mpigi district, this program offers volunteers the chance to contribute to quality education, sustainable development, and community empowerment.


What you offer

18 hours of help per week

Painting & Decorating: Help with painting or decorating the property facilities.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Restaurants: Get discounts at nearby restaurants.

Discounts on Pubs: Get discounts at nearby pubs.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Discounts on Accommodation: Get discounts for your stay in other hostels.

Free Hiking Tours: We’ll take you on excursions and hikes around town. For free!

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Dance classes: Take free dance classes at our place.

Permaculture Course: Take part in our Permaculture course for free.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Beginner English

Between 18 and 80 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers


What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa


Program Details

What we expect from Worldpackers:

- Commit to a minimum of 4 weeks of volunteering
- Dedicate 5 hours per day, 5 days a week to volunteering
- Assist teachers in classrooms, lead extracurricular activities, and share skills and experience with the community
- Be flexible, open-minded, and respectful of local customs, traditions, and ways of life
- Engage fully in the program and embrace the opportunity to learn and grow

What Worldpackers can expect from us:

- Safe and comfortable accommodation in a homestay at the school's premises or upgrade to a nearby guesthouse
- Meals provided, with options for dietary restrictions and preferences
- Comprehensive orientation and training upon arrival

Activities & Shift

Daily Activities:

- Assist teachers in classrooms (8:30 am - 12:30 pm)
- Lead extracurricular activities (2:00 pm - 4:00 pm)
- Participate in sustainable projects (4:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
- Engage in cultural exchange and language practice with students and staff (5:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
- Prepare lessons and materials (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
- Reflect on the day's experiences and plan for the next day (7:00 pm - 8:00 pm)

Shifts:

- Morning shift: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm (classroom assistance and lessons)
- Afternoon shift: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm (extracurricular activities and sustainable projects)
- Evening shift: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm (cultural exchange, language practice, and preparation)

Starting classroom activities enables volunteers to support teachers and engage with students during the day's most productive period, followed by a balanced schedule of extracurricular activities, & cultural exchange.
