Program Details
Volunteers will help for 20 hours per week. You do not need prior experience as we will instruct you, but for this position you do need to be fit as activities are physically demanding. You will learn about growing fruit trees in a tropical climate, composting and other aspects of regenerative agriculture.
You can stay in a room or camp. For camping please bring your own tent or we have tents for rent for $25 / month.
Activities & Shift
Monday - Friday from 8 am to 12 noon we have our group tasks sessions, in which you will take care of fruit trees, nursery plants, and maybe do some vegetable gardening. You will also do some cleaning. In the afternoons there is free time, and sometimes there are activities and events going on. We are in a very rural location, so expect to be spending a lot of time in nature. Sparkles, our dog, loves going for walks.
Rules
Food stuffs,
We have usually abundant bananas, papayas and some citrus year round. Other fruits like jackfruit, marang, starfruit, rollinia, peanut butter fruit, soursop, ice cream beans etc which come and go seasonally, and various roots for cooking when it's harvest time. We do not have enough food producing to feed everyone. Supplemental food can be bought at the market. Whole fruit and vegan food is the only food we allow. No oil, processed sugar or processed foods (with some explicit exceptions).
Sleeping info,
We have spare rooms and beds, but rarely spare bedding to borrow so it is best to plan on either bringing bedding and buying sheets and a blanket or two in town for your use. We also have some bedding put aside for rent, it's $5 / week or $15 / month.
