Travel to the Andes, help, and share with indigenous communities


The experience

The program is divided into two areas that you can choose to take separately or continuously:
AN OBSERVATORY where you spend a week visiting towns and indigenous villages in the Andes and coastal towns in Ecuador, engaging in conversations with community leaders about development projects.
ACTIVE VOLUNTEERING: Lasts approximately one week, during which you engage in volunteer work in the Olón Commune (a small town on a beach in Ecuador).


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: US$ 33 Per day

Fee pays for: Benefits for travelers and Donation to project

Description: Volunteers will cover the cost of their stay in a shared room with other volunteers and will receive breakfast during their stay. The funds will be used to pay the host families in the community and to support the projects.


What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.


Requirements

Beginner English or Beginner Spanish

Between 18 and 36 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

The foundation organizes three programs that can be done independently or combined.
1. Active Volunteering for Peace: Beach
2. Short Observatory + Volunteering: Andes and Beach
3. Long Observatory + Volunteering: Andes and Beach.
Active Volunteers: will carry out community engagement projects in Olón (Province of Santa Elena in Ecuador) for two weeks. There are two areas of action:
Science and Environment: These are aimed at reversing the effects of climate change through actions such as reforestation and water treatment programs. Art and Culture: Projects in this area are aimed at showcasing the intangible heritage of the Olón commune.
The observatory is conducted through a journey to different towns and aims for the volunteer to gain experience and have a broad understanding of the issues and possible solutions.

Rules

The foundation will ensure a welcoming and safe environment for participants. Accommodation will be in hotels or family homes with private or shared rooms with other volunteers or foundation members.
The accommodation administrator will provide room cleaning services, and participants must keep their rooms tidy at all times, especially if it is a room in a family home. If any damage or loss occurs in the room, all occupants will be held responsible.
Participation in the program and accommodation go hand in hand: If you lose the program, you also lose your accommodation. You can only stay in the provided lodging while participating in the program
