Program Details

We are a social enterprise where, as well as volunteers, you will find travellers who are staying at the eco lodge as part of their safari adventure. Our aim is to offer real support and empowerment to the local community to encourage them to partake in the tourism industry with their own enterprises. In order to reach this goal, we focus on:
- Provision of clean water for the community, so as to alleviate the burden of fetching water that women and children have, and enabling them to use their time to learn. Kids can go to the local schools and women partake in workshops of their choice.
- A "shamba" or farm where we grow as many vegetables as possible, not only as a provision to the kitchen in the ecolodge, but also to train the local community how to farm. At this stage, we are still understand what trees and veggies thrive in the area!
- Workshops - a lot of workshops!

Activities & Shift

Activities for volunteers include:

- Watering the gardens and trees if it's not raining
- Planting seedlings
- Caring for the trees and vegetables as they grow
- Joining the local team for repairs in the water grid
- Organising workshops for the local school children about agriculture, conservation, recycling and how to better take care of our planet

We encourage volunteers to also bring their expertise, passion and ideas into the mix!

Rules

At any of our projects, we expect volunteers to:
- Be able to follow the local team's advice and directives.
- Commit to not take pictures of local children or any local that is in a vulnerable scenario.
- Understand that service to others is a beautiful thing, which makes us equals.
- Be able to deal with living in nature with potential power cuts.
- Always deal with the local team if you want to make a donation.
- Be open, happy and ready to learn.
- Treat others with dignity and respect, regardless of where they come from.
