This amazing two weeks was a true hardcore experience. I feel grateful that I met the world of bamboo clump management. I learned many new things, I met my limits, ups and downs and at the end I felt like.. this was exactly what I needed. I highly recommend this beautiful place for those who would like to try real hard work. Thank you so much, it was a pleasure to dive in to your world!

You'll get to completely immerse yourself in the remote mountainous village of Alacantera. Toto (the host) is a really great and smart person, willing to help his community by developing an uncommon and unknown way of farming for this area. He will always do his best to make you feel home and to introduce you to the local communities and culture. My work during rainy season was mostly about transplanting fruit trees. IMPORTANT : This place is amazing but you need to be aware that the work is physical, you'll be working either in heat or rain. It doesn't suit to everyone. I highly recommend !

We spent two weeks volunteering in Escalentera, a small village on Iloilo Island, Philippines. We helped Toto, a local farmer, improve and build his bamboo farm. The work was hard but rewarding, and we also connected with the local community and school children. Toto was an excellent mentor, sharing insights about local life and culture while making the experience enjoyable. The village and its surroundings are beautiful, and trying traditional Filipino food was a highlight. This was a truly enriching and memorable experience.

Algersans gave truly everything I wanted and more! I wanted to work reeeally hard, like a real farmer would. I wanted to learn about bamboo, obviously. I wanted to be deeply immersed in local culture. I wanted to be surrounded by nature everyday. I didn't expect to be welcomed by a beautiful community and to feel so safe and loved. I didn't expect to have an opportunity to forage my own food with Ate Emi, a village legend in my opinion 😅 And I didn't expect to form a true friendship with Toto, who was beyond accommodating, generous & accepting. I wish I had more space to write! ♥️

This project is perfect for those who want to explore the possibilities of bamboo and experience the hard work involved in cultivating your own land. Toto is an excellent teacher, who uses the principle of learning by doing, helps you find answers, thoroughly explains the background to his decisions, and open to your ideas as well. If you would also like to see the dynamics of a village and don't mind being a bit isolated, don't hesitate to apply! :)

Toto and his family were amazing hosts! I instantly felt welcomed in their home. Toto was always paying attention to the work you do to make sure you do it correctly & safely. At the same time he let you work by yourself as soon as he got the feeling you could. During the hot days the work was quite tiring, so be prepared for that. The other volunteers were also super fun and I enjoyed doing day trips with them to the beach/etc. Over all it was a very cool experience to get to know the permaculture behind a bamboo farm and I had a lovely time with everyone, see you soon!

My time at Algersans Bamboo Farm provided valuable hands-on learning in sustainable agriculture, with both rewarding moments and opportunities for personal growth. Algersans offers exactly what it promises - real agricultural work in a beautiful Philippine setting. Those seeking a structured volunteer program with modern comforts might find it challenging, while volunteers valuing hands-on learning and cultural immersion will appreciate the experience.

I had an amazing experience volunteering at this bamboo farm ! Yes, the work can be physically demanding, but with only 5.5 to 6 hours of work per day, it's absolutely reasonable. Plus, the afternoons are free to relax, explore, or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Mama Gloria's cooking is simply delicious ! This place is perfect for anyone wanting to learn about bamboo construction and farming. Working alongside Toto was a real pleasure; he is both passionate and hilarious :) this type of physical work before, it can be a challenge, but Toto is always there to guide and support you.

My time at the farm was amazing, you learn so much about bamboos, how to work with them and how to build with them, toto does everything he can so that the farm will feel like home and your stay will be the best. from mama Gloria's meals and papa Rick's stories you feel like family right away, toto teaches you very thoroughly and carefully about every tool and how to use it, so don't worry if you have no previous experience. 10/10 would come again
