This experience was amazing, I cannot recommend it enough! Truly simple living and connecting with the reserve. Monica and Harvi are the best, so welcoming the instant you arrive. The food is amazing, Monica is a damn good chef. The work is very reasonable and there are so many cool projects to work on. Be engaged and wanting to try new things and not afraid to get your hands dirty! Monica and Harvi both have so much knowledge about the local ecosystem and people, it was incredible to learn. I will never forget this experience and can confidently say Monica and Harvi will be my friends for life!

Where to even begin. Monica and her son Harvi have been the most incredible people to learn from and spend time with. Not only are they generous and kind, but they take you in and treat you like family. The work Monica does is inspiring and getting to play even a small part in that is a very special thing. This experience is one I'll remember and cherish forever, and I will definitely be back! If you decide to join (which you should), try to contribute as much as possible, ask lots of questions, and immerse yourself in the culture and environment. You won't regret it. All my love ❤️

I enjoyed my time on Pulau Usukan!! Monica welcomed me like family and consistently reminded me, “you are meant to be here.” 😇 The island is a magical place where you can detach from the outside world and really reconnect with the reserve. The relationships I formed with fellow volunteers will last a lifetime, and the memories are one in a million. My favorite time of day would be getting together over meals and simply chatting. the reserve will forever hold a place in my heart, I can't wait to see where it is headed in the future. Much love ❤️

The reserve is a relaxed, remote and family run experience! Monica and Harvi take their roles as host and the reserve defenders seriously and welcome your ideas and questions. Life is basic here (amenities, etc.) but I would encourage you to welcome this and ease in! The location is amazing and feels truly removed despite only being a few hours from KK. All transport to the island is aided by local families so communication can be tricky at first but don't worry - you'll arrive and you'll find it hard to leave.

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the reserve Empire, and it was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. The place is simply wonderful, surrounded by stunning the reserve, and the reserve projects make you feel like you're truly making a difference. The team, led by Monica, is incredibly welcoming, and they made me feel like part of their family in Sabah. I hold so much love and affection for them, and I will definitely return. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to make a positive impact in the world and learn a lot in the process.

It's almost been a week since I left my the reserve empire family and I already miss the beautiful island and the amazing people I met! My time spent here was honestly so great - I got to experience the reserve for the first time, learnt lots about coral propagation and made so many lifelong memories! I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to represent the reserve empire at a coral propagation event in Mabul Island which was such an honour. Since I have left the island I have taken the knowledge and practice with me and continue to share this with others. It was meant to be. Lots of love x

Volunteering with the reserve empire was a true highlight of my asia trip. Monica was more like a mom than a host for us, she was taking care of everyone and I couldn't not mention her great cooking skills. during this volunteering experience i was basically feeling like i was on a tropical vacation - the place is gorgeous with sandy beach in one side and tropical jungle on the other. volunteers have a lot of freedom so you will have plenty of time to chill at the beach, go for hikes or snorkeling with fish and sharks around the island. i learned a lot about coral propagation and sea creatures

My time with the reserve was truly unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and valued. Working together, we not only achieved our goals but also created lasting memories and formed a genuine connection. The experience exceeded my expectations, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a wonderful place. I'll always cherish the moments we shared and look forward to crossing paths again in the future.

It's an absolutely amazing experience. From snorkeling to take care of the coral to watching how the local fisherman work it's a unique experience. Monica is a wonderful host and person, who you can learn a lot from. You'd be lucky to be able to get to volunteer here. Also, being able to propagate a coral nursery is a great feeling and will stick with you knowing it's growing and making a difference as you continue your travel.

Awww Dear Danny thank you for the comments. Dispite to the weather condition which it upset me abit, yet in the end mother ocean still got you to experience propagating coral 100% organic.

My experience at the reserve Ltd was incredible! Monica and her team were very accommodating and I learned plenty about both marine and land life. During my time there I not only participated in helping restore coral reefs but I also got involved in community projects, it was great to work closely with the local communities! The experience in general was highly inspiring and motivating on how we can all make a difference in supporting our environment.
