While in Salaverry I found so much peace and time for relaxation. the project is the perfect space for socialization or recharging, depending on your needs. My favorite part of this experience was interacting with the locals that we taught in the English classes! They were so welcoming, inviting us to play sports and go on hikes; and even cooking dinner for us. The whole experience is laid back so I recommend if you need a more structured schedule asking Shegu at the beginning of the week what will be expected of you.

I had a great stay overall in Salaverry! Working with Juan in the mornings was a highlight, he made us feel so welcome and would make us amazing coffees. The painting and digging for him was enjoyable! You get a lot of free time which was nice to be able to explore the surrounding areas. The English lessons in the evenings were enjoyable and most of the students were very engaged and willing to learn. There could be a bit more structure for the lessons and a bit more motivation from the organisers, but otherwise it's a great little town, the people were lovely & the work super chill!

I had a great experience volunteering — I taught English to kids and joined an environmental project with Juan, planting trees and improving a public area near the beach. Juan was always kind, smiling, and full of good energy. Shegu was super friendly and really cared about the kids, making sure they were included in activities like basketball and sandboarding. It all felt very natural. Peaceful beach town with lovely people. The shared kitchen was a bit tricky but manageable. A more organized English lesson schedule would help. Great experience — I'd definitely come back!

I had an amazing time at Jar'kay and stayed the perfect amount of time. In the morning you would plant flowers/trees or paint and the locals loved to stop by and show appreciation. Then later in the afternoon you would either teach English class or help with surf lessons. Most of the kids already know how to surf so you are mainly there for support. In the evenings volunteers would cook food together, do campfires on the mountain, or some nights travel to Trujillo for the nightlife. Salavvery has sandboarding, surfing, and a large nature preserve. Overall I had a great stay.

My stay at Jark'ay was just the best! Shegu is really commited to the organization in the sense that he really cartes about the children and what we can offer them but he is also here to make sure that you have a great time at the same time in Salaverry And for me it was the case! The kids are the best, they are really willing to learn and make so many effort to try to improve that is heartwarming

Great experience! The atmosphere in the house is always serene and with the other volunteers you immediately create a super harmony :)) The English lessons and the children are nice and motivating, the only flaw is the lack of organisation. I would recommend more communication in managing the house and the things you can do.

There was no communication prior to my stay nor to any of our activities, some of which I never agreed to participating in. There was also a push to sign a contract prior, which states there is a *SUGGESTED* contribution amount, but it is not a set amount. However when you are shown the signed contract, They will not clarify this with you but instead will ask you to pay for that suggested amount for your stay in full, upfront. Aside from the contract, the hostel itself is incredibly shoddy and unkempt to say the least. I stayed for the kids but this was not what I signed up for at all.

Shegu let you feel like being home and communicated (before the voluunteering) really well. Helped you with everything, good host, showed you the town. The voluunteering is very needed, I a small town with really kind children. The surf is unfortunately not as espected, same as the beach and the town. For teaching english, playing sports with the children and have a nice, chilled time it's really good! Love the home cinema

In the mornings at about 9am we would go down to the coast and help the most lovely man, Juan, to keep his gardens. This includes digging massive holes, weeding, watering and anything else he needs us to do. We stop at about 12pm and head back for lunch and enjoyed a couple hours of free time. At 3-4pm we head over to a little school where we teach English to kids. In our free time we do fun activities in between work or after work such as surfing, sand boarding or enjoying the delicious Peruvian cuisine. Salaverry is a welcoming and safe little town with lovely locals!

Shagu is such a great person and jefe. He is very chill when we need anything. He would always say no hay problem, no te preocupes, always check in with the volunteers and embrace new ideas if there is any thoughts that we have. I mainly participated in 3 projects: teaching children English, planting trees, and helping with the surfing lesson. Brainstorming class activities, staying balance on the paddle, and be communicative to other volunteers are the process I have experienced. All the other volunteers are great friends and companions to spend time with. I love the community feeling here.
