I had what one would call a “difficult start” in the beginning, but I got a lot of experience as it was my first time working. I had fun during my shifts, mainly because the guests were all one of a kind. Only real setback was that I never got to feel comfortable with most of the other volunteers, nor the cook. It was clear from the first week that they didn't like me and even the guests could detect it. Simple things, that everybody did, like being seen outside of the bar when things were slow, didnt apply to me. The bosses are super quick and experts. The hostel attracts amazing people!

It could be worst than it was. But still the time I paid there it wasn't worth. Unfortunately the room for the volunteers was nasty. And besides that the colleagues were quit rude. Basically it was more uncomfortable than welcoming.

SURF HOSTEL replied

The basis of coexistence is in oneself and not to blame others or space.
0 commitment on your part and attitude from the first moment despite being in low season and not having to do much to do ...
It is funny that you criticize the space of the volunteers without having used it, since you complained from the beginning and we located you in the best place of the hostel.
Thank you for leaving us on the fifth day of your arrival without notice and avoiding having to tell you to leave yourself.

This was the absolute best first worldpackers experience. Within a few days I really felt like family and part of the group. There are great vibes in the hostel and whether you surf or not you will have a blast. The tasks are simple and fair. The owners, Aritz and David, are two of the coolest guys I've ever met. I learned a lot from them and grew to admire them as well. the hostel is an amazing city and can't wait to go back. Until then, AGUR!

About a year ago I had the chance to be a part of Surfing Etxea's team and I just can't recommend it enough for volunteering! Apart from the fact that the hostel is an amazing city with endless activities and a lot of fun year long, this hostel is a great place to work at. The atmosphere is always fun and welcoming and you will for sure meet lots of interesting people every day. Regarding the tasks; they're quite easy to do and not hard at all. Last but not least Aritz and David definitely made my stay even better and I'm super thankful! :D

My time at Surfing Etxea was laid back and chill. Aritz and David are the best, making sure your stay is as great as possible. The hostel itself is super clean and possibly the nicest hostel I have ever been in. Much like working at a flat at a friends house. Perfect location for surfing or enjoying the beach and a ten minute walk to the old town. The job is really easy, especially in the off season. Wouldn't recommend being the hostel Seb in November because of all the rain but still a great time the hostel great city!

The most amaizing experience!!! David and Aritz are super cool and good people. I really loved to be part of the surfing etxea team. I felt super confortable and i learned a lot. The hostel is beautiful and the acommodation given was perfect. Donosti is a beatiful place, and we were near the zurriola beach (2 minutes walking). I spend a real nice time in surfing etxea, and would recommend everyone to have the same experience! I hope to come back some day to donosti and meet them again :D

The whole experience was amazing! It was just what i needed: relaxing time, meeting new people and having time to do my own thing when i needed. The whole team is super nice and they all are flexible to make adjustments in the shifts so you can have a good time going around to the other cities too! the location is just perfect for surfers and non-surfers (like myself). Aritz, David and Alex were amazing!

Aritz and David have done an incredible job giving the apartment a cool look and they truly care about ensuring the guests get the best out of the hostel. I can honestly say that this hostel has a welcoming, friendly, and community atmosphere to a level that I have not experienced at another hostel, and I know most of their guests would say the same thing. The work routine was simple, put out breakfast at 9AM, unmake the beds of the people checking out that day, put in fresh linens for the new check-ins, wash the linens, and keep the hostel tidy and clean. I definitely recommend this host!
