About us : “Avatamsaka Vihara or Engaged Ecoversity

Avatamsaka Sutra is Mahayana text that depicts interdependence and interpenetration of all dharmas (here dharma means “phenomenon”, both in the sense of them being both temporal and spatial, and material and nonmaterial)― for example, the phenomenon that we linguistically identify as “I” interpenetrates all other phenomena that we linguistically identify as the world or the universe― they arise together and are dependent on one another following the Mahayana idea of pratityasamutpada or dependent co-origination― and where neither of them are fixed or static, and neither being the cause, nor the effort (because, cause and effect are but mental constructions according to the Madhyamakas). About the Open University Project

We are developing an Open University Project across 100 acres of land in West Bengal, envisioned as a living space for learning, reflection, and rediscovery of the forgotten legacy of the Indian education system.

This initiative moves beyond conventional structures — there is no fixed syllabus, because the entire existence itself becomes the syllabus. It is a journey of self-realization, experiential learning, and harmony with the existential reality.

Our aim is to create a space where individuals from all walks of life can explore knowledge in its purest form — through nature, community, creativity, and consciousness. The Open University welcomes learners, researchers, farmers, artists, scientists, seekers, and innovators, anyone who wishes to participate in the collective evolution of understanding and sustainable living.

At its core, this project celebrates learning as a lifelong process, unbounded by age, discipline, or institutional constraint. Everyone is welcome to be part of this journey
