Please note that all hostel placements are on a voluntary basis and we do not enter into a contractual agreement with individuals or placing organizations. With that being said, we do rely on our volunteers to cover certain shifts at the hostel. If you are not able to make a commitment, then please refrain from applying.
We recommend you purchase travel and medical insurance.
As part of our safeguarding measures, we require all candidates to submit a Criminal Record check from their home country. You cannot start volunteering with YHA or reside in our staff accommodation until this check has been returned to us. Please note that it's your responsibility to check if there is any cost associated with this.
Activities & Shift
• Housekeeping (10am-2:30pm/no break included). You’ll undertake housekeeping tasks efficiently and effectively to a high standard of cleanliness throughout the hostel. You’ll take a proactive approach to reviewing and maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the hostel. You’ll report faults or damage to a member of the hostel management team.
Tasks may include: making beds, hoover, dust, carry linen, clean general areas.
• Food and Beverage. You’ll comply with all Food Hygiene standards in the storage, preparation, and delivery of food. You’ll promote the sale of food and beverage to generate revenue, contributing to the achievement of your hostel’s F&B targets.
Kitchen morning shift: 7am-1pm (30-minute break included)
Kitchen afternoon shift: around 5-10pm (no break included)
Tasks may include: washing dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, cleaning the kitchen, sweep and mop the floors, some light food preparation
• We publish the rota about 2 weeks in advance, and all volunteers do 4 shifts per week. After the rota is published, no amendments can be made. We expect the volunteers to be flexible and available for the 3 different kinds of shifts (kitchen morning, kitchen evening, and housekeeping). If you work and there are specific days or times that you are unavailable, please refrain from applying for this placement. Flexibility and reliability are very important to us.
• Volunteer facilities, such as dorms, showers and kitchen, are the volunteers' responsibility to maintain clean and tidy. We do a weekly cleaning rota for all volunteers, to ensure that everyone participates in the cleaning of the shared facilities.
