Want to make a real difference for the planet? 🌍🐢
Welcome to Barra de Pacuare, a natural paradise where the sea meets the jungle and river.
Our mission is to live sustainably and protect biodiversity.
From Feb/March, sea turtle season begins!
It means that our beach becomes a vital nesting site for leatherback, green, and hawksbill turtles.
Starting in February, we support the nearby conservation project with hatchery care and night patrols to protect nests and ensure hatchlings reach the ocean.
By volunteering with us, you’ll not only help save endangered turtles but also be part of a close-knit, international community. Together, we care for a garden, animals, and a small grocery store, all while embracing sustainable living practices.
Your actions here are essential for protecting these incredible species and preserving our planet's biodiversity. Join us in Barra de Pacuare for an unforgettable experience where adventure meets purpose.
Activities & Shift
We give our help to the sea turtle project nearby for building and caring the hatchery and doing night patrols to find sea turtles nesting and relocate the eggs in the hatchery.
The leatherback sea turtle is in danger of extinction so we feel it is really important to work to preserve them.
We also help with beach cleaning to contribute preserve sea turtles.
Typical day is :
- breakfast at 8
- work from 9 to 12/13h, it can be a hatchery shift
- have lunch
Most of the time, afternoon is free but you could help with the shop sometimes or do a hatchery shift.
By night, patrol on the beach to look for sea turtles nesting.
Rules
Participation is 27dollars per day. This volunteer project is a non profit so we need fees to pay food and camp maintenance.
We also have to give a part to the sea turtle project.
You have to pay in advance half of the price with our PayPal and the rest the day of your arrival, no refund.
You have to respect work times.
During free time you have to let us know where you are and be careful with the sea and the jungle.
You always have to respect the others and let the place, dorms and bathroom clean.
Volunteers can enter and leave on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cost is 10 000 colones (20$) for the taxi and 10 000 colones (20$) for the boat one way.
If you are at least two people you can share the taxi price and boat would be 6 000 colones (12$) one way.
You have to take the bus in San Jose to arrive before the night in Bataan. The best way is a morning bus from San Jose to Siquirres and then to Bataan.
Internet is 10$ a week.
