The experience

Knowing English, especially in touristic areas like Huanchaco is actually very important and can open up a lot of opportunities for individuals. Due to a lack of funding, kids in Salavaerry do not have access to English classes unless they have a lot of money- contributing to reproduction of inequality.

Come volunteer with our nonprofit as an English teacher, and help empower kids, promote opportunities and decrease inequality!

Program Details

We are teaming up with multiple public schools in the area that are unable to provide English classes themselves, to go in and regularly teach English classes. We also have the option to teach English for those interested after school. These classes will be for kids 6-18 years old. You will have an ESL lesson plan and book you may use to teach your classes, but also have the ability to use your creativity and experience to teach your way.

Activities & Shift

You will not be required to work more than 15 hours a week. Currently we are offering a 2-hour English classes for kids after school Monday-Friday. As you will already have a textbook to follow with lesson plans, required preparation for your classes should be minimal. When you arrive, you will be given a schedule that will not exceed 10 hours a week. Beyond teaching English, if you are interested in helping us in other ways, we usually could use help in marketing and media, fundraising, sandboard or surfing lessons/tours, environmental projects, event planning and more.

Rules

Once you are given a schedule and it is approved on both sides, we are counting on you to be at your site on time and prepared with the material needed for class.
If you have any questions, or struggles with teaching your class, you will always have us to help you when needed.
