The experience

“Fujitatami Guesthouse” is run by tatami factory. Tatami is a traditional Japanese floor mat.
The main job involves cleaning the hostel and making beds, but occasionally, you may also be asked to help with check-ins, assist with tatami workshops, or support the events we organize. Since the tasks vary, a certain level of adaptability is required. Ideally, we are looking for someone with previous experience working or helping in a hostel.

What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Painting & Decorating: Help with painting or decorating the property facilities.

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Kitchen Hand: Help prepare, finish and serve meals.

What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Discounts on Pubs: Get discounts at nearby pubs.

Discounts on Drinks: Get discounts for drinks and beverages from our bar.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Events: Get free entrance for the best events in town.

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Requirements

Fluent English

Between 21 and 35 years old

Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa

Program Details

We need someone who is interested in Japanese culture and life style, Japanese architecture and craftsman. However it doesn’t matter how much you like it.
And please note our hostel is located in a little far from the Osaka city center. So transportations is not very convenient. You can use free bike, I can pick you up or drop you off if I have time when your day off.

Activities & Shift

Mainly clean the hostel up about 2-3 hours.
Replace furnitures in rooms. (Sometimes we have to change interiors)
Describe about the hostel when new guests come to check-in.
Sometimes help us the workshop for making tatami mat at the factory.
Please help to manage some small event at the hostel, the factory or the warehouse next door.
Every Friday and Saturday we open the bar. Bar tending job is also required.
All works are in 4 hours per day. But we can give more day off if you had to work longer than 4 hours or you want to change a shift. We’re so happy that you have flexibility for your shift.

Rules

Non-smoking inside the hostel.
Usually you can’t take a day off on the weekend.
Your day off is normally not consecutive dates.
Let us know in advance if you want to take a day off a specific date.
