Simple Job, LOTS of Time to Explore Antigua Guatemala!

My time at the host had ups and downs. Maribel, the kitchen lady, was absolutely lovely, Kelsey and the reception girls were helpful, the volunteers felt like home. However, I had a bad experience with a guide who insulted me, the rest of the staff felt unfriendly, and the house was under noisy construction. WiFi was also unreliable. There's potential here, but they need to improve their staff attitude and facilities.

I would venture to say, that construction does mean improved facilities. So I agree, the construction while your stay was less than ideal and we definitely apologize for that! We are excited for the new improvements for the new volunteers!

The instructions were clear and the host was well-located. I met beautiful volunteers that made my stay in Antigua better. The communication in the host was rougher than it should've been. The accomodation was bad. At one point there was a construction happening from 6AM to 11PM. It was so dusty, that every volunteer suffered from sore throat and coughing. When I got home from a trip, my room turned into a storage room - without communicating it to me. It made me feel like I don't even exist and weird, that everybody could just walk into my room. It often felt like we weren't valued, just there for work.

Vi I do apologize for the construction happening during your stay and the lack of communication around it. However, the hours you worked in a week were between 10-12 hours....so saying you were just here for work when the time volunteers actually work is so little seems a bit misleading.

My experience at this place was mixed. The central location and safe environment in Antigua were great. The work was simple, with clear rules and plenty of free time. Kelsey, the manager, stayed in touch, and the accommodation was decent. However, there was no sense of community—volunteers were left on their own. The biggest issue was Ciro, a staff member with serious alcohol and drug problems, who harassed female volunteers. Despite complaints, the company didn't take action, making the environment uncomfortable and unprofessional.

Kasia, our description made it clear that one key advantage of working here is the plenty of free time and the chance to meet other volunteers and enjoy tours. I saw you do movie nights, salsa classes, dinners, and many outings all as a big group, which shows a strong community among volunteers. Concerning the employee, we didn’t include you in our discussions about his actions, which we take very seriously. Your concerns matter, and we appreciate the opportunity to have them addressed.

Volunteering with the host Expedition for two weeks was an incredible experience! The work was light, just 2-3 hours a day, leaving plenty of time to explore Antigua. The team, especially Kelsey, was super supportive, always ready to help, and made the stay so enjoyable. Meeting volunteers from around the world was a highlight, and the location in the heart of Antigua was perfect—markets, attractions, and coffee shops were all nearby. Free salsa classes, karaoke, hiking, and the unforgettable free volcano tours made it even better. Thank you Kelsey for an amazing and memorable opportunity!

Kelsey was an awesome host that communicated very well from beginning to end. She was very welcoming and sociable and fostered a productive work environment. The work was very straightforward and only took up 1.5-2 hours of your day on average. The location is A+ being in the heart of Antigua. It was an enriching experience and would recommend it to anyone.

My time at the host was amazing! The work itself was really manageable and was mostly about giving out gear and doing some cleaning. The perk of getting to hike Acatenango/Fuego (and Pacaya) for free was 100% the highlight of the experience. Kelsey, the manager was very helpful and kind. She made sure we had everything we needed always :) I would highly recommended this volunteering experience to anyone who wants to get to know Antigua well.

It felt really welcomed here. Everyone here is generous and open for a conversation. The tasks aren't hard to do and after your shift you have a lot of free time. Really enjoyed my time here with the other volunteers and the staff.

I spent 5 weeks at the host and wish I could've stayed longer. Usually only 2 hours of work a day and it isn't difficult.. The location couldn't be any better in central Antigua and the ability to go on these incredible volcano hikes for free is the highlight of the experience. Kelsey runs a tight ship but is very easy to reach and accommodating with any requests or issues about anything. Very simple but cozy living conditions that the volunteers are responsible for keeping clean, but they are always willing to improve the experience if you ask. Will absolutely try to come back! Thanks the host :)

Volunteering in the host has been one of my favorites experiences, the work is really easy so it gives you plenty of time to explore Antigua and the you get the chance to meet tons of people and there are no words for the experience of hiking a volcano. I recommend 100 to come and volunteer at the host!!!
