Program Details

We welcome participants of all ages and backgrounds: college students interested in gaining professional skills, professionals considering a change in careers, and South American travelers looking to dive deeper into community life, just to name a few.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in building our new Street Food Start-Up from the ground up. Whether you have been involved in business before or this is your first time, we welcome everyone to take part in this amazing project.

Activities & Shift

The Street Food Startup
Rio has few healthy street food options and - like most of the world - is suffering from a health crisis caused by the decline of traditional cooking and the proliferation of cheap processed food. Our Street Food Startup will address this issue by creating a distribution network for healthy, tasty, cheap street food.

We've sketched out a four-week timeline with connections lined up and ready to go, including a commercial kitchen at a local church, a venue to host a community cafe, and Vidigal street vendors ready to sell our food. With your fellow participants, you'll turn this idea into a socially-focused business. This includes: creating a logo & marketing strategy, developing recipes, sourcing seasonal produce from local markets, hosting a community cafe, and coordinating vendors during the final week's trial sale.

Rules

The only cast-iron requirements are good teamwork skills, a sense of fun, and to share our interest in how small-scale entrepreneurship can contribute to local communities. You don’t need to speak Portuguese, but we are thrilled if you do.
