The experience

What we want to share is an immersion into 'campesinos life', hands in the ground, close to nature, adapting the rythm to the season, simple life, and also our reflexions and actions for regenerative agroforestry (we start to follow syntropic principles and are working with the notion of preservation of a living soil, adapting to our dry and extreme conditions here in Serra Sao Mamede)

Activities & Shift

We build our house with eco-materials, we prepare the land to start a nursery for regenerative, medicinal and foodproduction plants, schrubs and trees, we make olive oil, all of this on a family scale. So tasks are really depending of the season and needs of the moment
+- november : picking olives and processing olives (oil and to eat)
+- december/february : planting and pruning trees and schrubs and implementing syntropical agriculture
+- february/november : taking care of the garden and land
+- spring and autumn : health of the trees + irrigation
all year long : construction, care of the land, cooking, ...

Rules

We use to live a lot with the season, so our summer/winter rithm is adapted. A lot outside with the dailylight, more calm at night during the winter. We also have strong inside seasons : we have times for exchanges, giving and receiving from interactions, and we also have times for our 'inner world'. So we want to host people who love to exchange, but who also can be happy on their own, respecting our need of family intimacy, not expecting us to entertain them.
Also, we want to host people who are aware of what is physical work, but we're really respectfull of the 'contract'.
We are what is called 'flexitarians', so we mostly cook with our vegetables, but sometimes we eat meat or fish. Of course vegan meals are available.
We ask people not to be on smartphones and internet all day long, and we ask to switch off WIFI and 4G when not used and at night.
