Program Details

I am Dayat, I was born in Bali and I moved to Lombok at a very young age with my large family. Seven years ago I founded my sustainable tourism company with the help of Hannah.

When Covid hit we lost nearly everything: we were a team of 10 wonderful independent drivers and guides. We launched an English club in our village, which we fund by donating a portion of our income from the trips: our goal is to give local children the opportunity to learn English in a fun and relaxed environment. We are now trying to bring back the company to how it used to be and to improve our English speaking club project in the local village.

Right now, we need someone who could help us with english teaching, website development, social media, photography and videography, accommodation management, new ideas for tours, storytelling… Any knowledge will be useful for us.

Activities & Shift

English teaching: you don’t have to be a certified teacher, simply someone who is confident in having to speak to a group of 20 kids and knows the basics of the English language; We also need somebody who could improve our English teacher’s skills.

Photography and videography: we need somebody who is traveling with his own equipment, it would be amazing to have drone shots and create promotional content for our tourism company and for our social projects;

Copywriting: our website and social media accounts need to be updated and for that, we are looking for a person with writing skills;

Social media content creation: short form content, reels, Instagram stories and posts;

Admin and communication skills to help us with our emails and collaborations;

Web design and development: if you know how to use Wordpress, then we need you as well.

Rules

You will either live in a local Muslim or Hindu village located in Central Lombok.

We will kindly ask our volunteers to adjust into our culture: please wear T-shirts and long pants/skirts when walking around the Muslim village and teaching in the English club - of course you are free to wear whatever you want at the basecamp and the Hindu village.

You'll be staying in one of the available homestays in the village or hostel. You will either live on your own, share the house with a local family or with another volunteer.
The bathroom can either be a western bathroom or a local style bathroom (squat toilet with a bucket and a water tap), no hot water is available. One of the homestays is our ´basecamp´. Here the volunteers can gather around and spend time together. The homestay also has a garden with gazebo and hammock where you can chill during the day and evening.
