Teaching English to the unprivileged children of Tianyar
The experience
You will find that all of the children have a real thirst for knowledge and are eager to learning – making your teaching experience as rewarding for you as it is for them. Their excitement will shine through everyday as they all attend with smiling faces, a positive attitude and will love to get you know you. Volunteers are encouraged to be creative in their approach and where possible make use of games, songs, art, sport and music.

Program Details
The afternoon classes aim to make learning English a fun and enjoyable experience, especially after the children have had a long day at school already. Although the main focus of your time will be spent teaching English, you can also get involved with many other subjects. You will have plenty of chances to get creative and get involved in singing, arts and crafts and playing sports and games outside. Not only will you be providing a new learning experience for the children, but at the same time you will be transferring skills and sharing cultural perspectives.
Activities & Shift
Volunteers will teach in the afternoon from 3pm - 5pm, 4 days a week from Monday – Thursday. The afternoon classes are split into two sessions, with different groups of children coming to each. The first session runs from 3pm until 4pm and the second session from 4pm until 5pm. The age range of your class will dictate the level of English taught, and full information will be given during your orientation when you first arrive. In most classes, volunteers will be co-teaching with another volunteer. Our local teacher aid and volunteer coordinator is available for your support. After class on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, fun and educational activities are organized with the local school. Some of these activities can include; dancing, yoga, beach cleaning, swimming/snorkeling and fun games. If volunteers have any specific skills, we would love them to help with these activities.
