Help support vulnerable children and communities in Tanzania


The experience

Join the Living Hope Organization team which operates in Tanzania mainland based in Mbarali District and Mbeya City.

As a volunteer with us, you will be supporting children from poor families, elder people, youth and women by:
- Visiting families and groups in rural villages of Mbarali District to deliver basic needs and investment capital
- Assisting the director to train community groups in economic empowerment and daily office tasks


What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Kitchen Hand: Help prepare, finish and serve meals.

Elderly Care: Assisting and spending time with the elderly.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Additional fee required

Amount: US$ 20 Per week

Fee pays for: Materials for volunteer activities and Donation to project

Description: The volunteer contribution will fund project activities (ex. providing basic needs and investment capital to vulnerable elders, youth, women and children) as well as operating costs for the volunteer's activities (ex. transport fare)


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Fluent English or Intermediate English

Between 18 and 80 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Come to work hand in hand with the Organization director, based in Itezi, Uyole, and secretary, based in Igurusi, Mbarali on the daily activities required to operate community support programs benefitting the most vulnerable elders, children, youth and women in Mbeya, Tanzania. Volunteers are expected to participate in office and village based activities of the organization's projects in cooperation with the local Tanzanian staff.
Volunteers will be provided with comfortable, modern accommodation at the Living Hope Hostel in Itezi, Uyole, Mbeya, a peri-urban neighbourhood in the regional capital. Three meals per day will be provided, as well as facilities for self-catering using the wide variety of fresh foods locally available. Volunteers will be encouraged and supported to learn the local language, Kiswahili, by director Lucy Brighton.


Activities & Shift

Work days are Monday to Friday, and office hours are 9am to 5 pm. Volunteers will be expected to contribute to organization activities totalling 20 hrs per week, which may take place in Uyole, at the office in Igurusi or during visits in the communities.
- visiting elders to bring food, eat together, and help with home cleanliness
- visiting community members to collect donated clothing and basic needs to distribute to needy households
- running trainings for women on economic empowerment
- social advocacy teaching in rural villages on rights of elders, children and women
- community teaching on environmental preservation and hygiene
- assist in data collection and recording of project information
- taking pictures and videos during project activities and uploading for organizational Instagram and Youtube


Rules

Volunteers at the Organization are expected to live with the local hosts as a family together, participating in daily life.

Abuse of alcohol and other substances is not tolerated at the place
