Program Details
We would wish to have volunteers regularly for basic help. Volunteers do not need to have any special skills only love of the mentally handicapped children. In the home we train these children on activities of daily living e.g. brushing teeth, sweeping, wiping the chairs etc. We also train them on vocational skills e.g. sewing and knitting. Even playing balls, jumping with the children, giving therapeutic exercises. These will help the children feel loved and taken care of. The Home is a non-profit venture and an initiative where all can join to assist these vulnerable children. Currently we have 23 very needy children.
Activities & Shift
The home is about two hours drive from the capital city of Nairobi towards Mt. Kenya. On a clear morning, one can see the snow capped Mt. Kenya from just around this area. We are not far from the Equator and the Aberdares where volunteers can visit and see the big five.
I Margaret will be oftenly taking our visitors to see our town ( Karatina) and its environs. They will be able to see our open air market. There is much to see around this place and I will be willing to show it all. Volunteers will never regret coming to Karatina.
