Program Details
I've been welcoming volunteers to our small village in Bulgaria since 2006, and everywhere I look, I see things they’ve built or helped with.
All you need to join is common sense, a willingness to try new things, and the ability to do a full day of physical work. We focus a lot on natural building and making the most of what we have. I’m often in the middle of turning a field into a garden!
If you have specific skills or experience, that’s a bonus, but right now, I could really use some extra hands since my health and age slow me down a bit. Enthusiasm is more important than expertise!
Life here is changing fast—fewer people and animals have had a big impact, but you can still experience the village’s rich traditions and Bulgaria’s unique culture.
Activities & Shift
Over the years, we’ve tried different ways of working with volunteers, and the system that works best now is a 3-day help week: Monday to Wednesday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. That means you get 4 days off to explore Bulgaria—there’s easy transport to the Black Sea—or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Volunteers stay in a house in the village center, which has two cozy apartments and a beautiful outdoor kitchen—built with mud by past volunteers! We provide dry food and fresh veggies from the garden on workdays. My house is just a 10-minute walk from the village center.
Rules
We don't really have any rules except perhaps asking that you limit your use of plastic.
