The experience

We are a small independent hostel in the stunning Loch Ness region of the Scottish Highlands. We have 39 beds, a great bar with over 30 Scottish beers, and a really friendly atmosphere. We LOVE having volunteers come and work with us, and being part of our hostel family for a few weeks or months, and our online reviews demonstrate just how important the team is to our reputation. But they all seem to love being here too, so we're thrilled!

Program Details

To give you an idea of what you'd be doing if you come to join us, our team works hard but also really enjoys living and working here. (In fact, many come back again!) They work up to a 30-hour week, split into 5 shifts a week.
Volunteers live on-site in a 4-bed staff dorm at the back of the property, they have their own staff kitchen, and they can do their laundry in the main washing machine and dryer.
Volunteers tell us that their favourite things about staying at our hostel are:
1. The amazing scenery
2. The relaxed pace of village life
3. The great team atmosphere

Activities & Shift

Volunteers don't always do the same thing from one day to the next - that's why we ask for a longer commitment than some places (8 weeks), because we invest time in training you on ALL the different elements of running a busy hostel. You'll go away knowing how to run reception, housekeeping and the bar - useful skills! Anyone who is at all handy will always be put to good use too. And we value photographers, anyone with social media skills too, as these are definitely not our strengths! :-/

In their time off we encourage the team to get out and about, to go and explore the stunning Highlands and really make the most of their time here. But this is their home, so if they choose just to chill in front of the fire with a book that's also fine with us! Days are long in Scotland so there's plenty of time to explore!

Rules

Volunteers are only asked to remember that by committing to come and be part of our team, we are relying on you to give us your best self, to help us to give our guests a really positive experience. If you're a negative person, or if you don't want to work hard to be part of something great, then this isn't the right place for you.
