The experience

FREE place 22 June - 25 July.Help us take care of the animals, dogs, cats and farm animals in need.Experience in living in a house inside the shelter be surrounded by dogs and learn about animal welfare in Greece.As an open shelter, there are no cages and the dogs are free to move around in designated areas according to their compatibility. You will be expected to help with the day to day cleaning , feeding, looking out for signs of illness.


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Animal Care: Help look after and take care of animals.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate French

Between 20 and 60 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

As a volunteer you will be expected to help with the day to day running of the shelter.
There's a lot of cleaning up to do, along with feeding, giving medication, looking out for signs of illness, brushing the dogs, spent time with the dogs. Socializing with dogs and walking with them is also something one can do, but not required to do.
In the first days you will be shown exactly how the shelter works and you will get to know the founder, other volunteers and the animals.
Typical day
The dogs are divided into 5 sections –
Each of our volunteers take part in the daily duties, based on their experience. For example:
• Food preparation,Feeding, Pick up the feeding bowls
• Administering medication
• Cleaning the living areas
• Providing water throughout the day
• General observation and daily caring
• Cleaning and feeding of the other animals (goats, cats, chickens)
• Walking the dogs


Activities & Shift

The activities take part mostly during the early morning and on late afternoon according to weather conditions
So your help in cleaning/ feeding and taking care of the animals expect to take place before early mornings and late afternoon.
Please be aware that you have to be physically fit to do the tasks on the time mentioned, for example to be capable to lift and carry a bucket full of water or feed during feeding . If you have not the fitness for this, please do not apply for this position.


Rules

We are a very small animal shelter. We have accommodation only for animals and our founder.We can host max 2 Volunteers, in an adjacent 60 qm house. There is a double bed room and a single bed room and one separate WC in the house, a fridge and a washing machine.The guesthouse has no TV and no Radio - on purpose. But is has good and free internet. The sanctuary is situated in a rural/ non residential area so it's generally peaceful and tranquil, but There are simple cooking facilities and in the 60 qm house is where the 6 foster cats of the shelter live.So expect to have cat therapy sessions while you are staying there. You are expected to be quiet and not noisy. Essentials are honesty, truthfulness and reliability. We expect you to communicate open and non violent. It is a non smoking area and house, no drugs, no noise, no excess of alcohol. Camping outside is possible too.
