The donkey the shelter was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The animals are sweet and the work is exactly as described. The village is beautiful and extremely peaceful. The one thing I would point out is that is it very isolated, and if you don't have a car, it is hard to get into the main town of Ierapetra. Suzy goes down to a lot and will always offer rides but just wanted to call this out as this ended up being something that was important to me personally. However the peacefulness I felt in the house/the shelter/village was something that will stay with me forever.

I had a wonderful time at the shelter, Suzi was very welcoming and I enjoyed my stay. The animals are all so cute. The house is very comfortable with everything you could need and it's in a very quiet space with a taverna close by and the locals are very nice. The work is not difficult and I was usually finished by 11:00 which is a relief because it gets very hot in the summer! The town of Ierapetra is very pleasant to visit and Suzi is very kind for giving lifts down there. Omnivores please note that you will be eating a meat free diet as Suzi and Alistar are vegetarians :)

I had such a nice time at the shelter. Suzanne was nothing but nice, understanding and accommodating. The work as described in the app, and the shelter down to the shelter was the best way to start the day. We usually finished before 11 AM and had the rest of the day to ourselves. The house is a bit old but it had everything we needed, and Suzanne made sure we were warm enough.

I really enjoyed my time working with Suzanne at the shelter. Her and Allister were both friendly and welcoming and I had the house to myself most of my stay because I was the only volunteer. The house is very comfortable in a small village, but it is a little isolated so as long as you are ok spending time by yourself you will be all good! The work itself was like described. I fed and watered the animals each day and cleaned the pens and helped with other tasks as needed. I even learned a little about animal wound care. The work was never excessive and I enjoyed it. Thank you so much!!

I had a truly wonderful time at this the shelter. Suzanne was extremely welcoming and shared with me a lot of great stories about herself and her animals. the shelter I would take to arrive at the shelter always had a beautiful sunrise view and that set the tone for the whole experience. Not to mention all the kitties who live at the house I stayed at! This was a great way to connect with the land and the animals. I felt serene and also like I had a successful day of work every day. I would consider traveling to Crete again just to visit the farm.

From the moment I arrived, Suzan and Alistair, the hosts of the shelter, were incredibly accommodating and kind. They made sure I felt welcome and comfortable throughout my stay. Their love for animals is evident as well as the their dedication for the animal welfare. Speaking of the animals, they were simply adorable! What I appreciated most, was the sense of community. They foster an environment of teamwork, where volunteers from all walks of life come together to make a difference in the lives of these animals. I made lifelong friends & memories that I will cherish forever!

I had an absolutely wonderful time at the shelter, i have yet to leave and have extended my stay from two weeks to almost two months. This was my first experience here on world packers and my first time abroad alone and even though difficult times occurred for the couple due to ill health shortly after arrived Suzy still accommodated to the other volunteer and I amazingly, felt so at home and welcome.Suzy is such a strong, lovely and astounding woman, Alistair can be quite amusing and my goodness are the animals so precious, you'll just want to take them all home, cannot recommend more!
