Staying at the host and working with Sylou has been a real pleasure. I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. I had lots of space to relax in the rooms and plenty to explore on my walks around the Loire valley. If you aren't a big walker, Sylou makes sure you can visit the surrounding towns, so you will stay active. And don't tell my mother, but this was some of the best food I have eaten. Highly recommended for those who would like to improve their french and explore the countryside. Thank you, Sylou!

I cannot explain how amazing was this experience for me. The landscape is beautiful and the accommodations are so nice, comfortable and private. Sylou makes sure you always have everything you need plus the delicious meals she prepares. I instantly felt comfortable and felt a real connection with her, I can talk with Sylou for hours!! I enjoyed so much cooking together and prepare the dishes. I learnt good recipes and she also invited me to visit really nice places on our days off. I cannot be more grateful for everything. I'll miss you 🥲 and I'm already waiting to seeing you again ❤️

The room was beautiful, however it was in the middle of country. There is not much things to do around, beside going for walks. A bike would be nice to be able to explore more around. I felt uncomfortable most of the time volunteering in the kitchen, I didn't always feel respected when I was helping out. I try my best to always help around and understand that working in a kitchen can be stressful but I feel it is always important to treat yours volunteer with respect and empathy.

I am sorry Bianca if you felt like this but I never treated you without respect and all the volunteers can tell you I respect you all, I don't know where is the problem in your feelings because Mariana who was working with us did not feel unconfortable, she was sad to leave so you are totally allowed to say you where unconfortable but don't make poeple think I treat my volunteers without respect because this totally unfair. Did I ever once shout at you ? Said something when you make fall a preparation out of the fridge, no I just tried to make you confortable saying, don't worry it happens ! I took you to Sancerre to visit the wine museum and payed for it , brought you to La Charité sur Loire and waited there so you could visit as well. Hopefully we are going to buy some bikes this year, I understand we are in the middle of the country but I tell it before you come. And I also tell you that there is different task of what needs a restaurant like help in the kitchen as well.

The host is a very good restaurant with nice costumers. Sylou and Richard were very good hosts. They gave us rides from time to time to visit nearby towns or to the train station, but an access to bikes would be a great addition to allow more independence since the village is very deep in the country side. A downside is that we often finished service late at night and then were expected to have had breakfeast before 9 am the next morning, which didn't allow a lot of time to sleep, so we sometimes skipped breakfeast. Overall, it's a great experience but it is a slow life style.

I cannot fault the hospitality and generosity of Sylou and Richard welcoming me into their home. I enjoyed getting to know them, they are so lovely and great fun! The work advertised is not quite what I experienced - it was originally advertised as bartending but in reality it was mostly waitressing and kitchen help, and there was work to do before/after service with cleaning, food prep etc so it was more hours than I was expecting as I was the only volunteer there. Overall I'm still glad I had this experience! It was great to try something new during my travels.

The tasks are simple and Sylou is clear with the procedures and standards that she manages in her restaurant. You will have the chance to practice french, learn how to operate the bar, help with the kitchen and try delicious meals. The amenities are super comfortable and well cared for. The hosts are wonderful. Richard is always willing to help and Sylou is one of the loveliest people you can ever meet. She has tons of fascinating anecdotes and her cooking skills will make you want to stay more! The experience itself was beautiful but Sylou and Richard made it delightful. Thanks for everything

The experience at the host was simply amazing. No words can describe how wonderful was everything!! Starting with Sylou who is one of the kindest people you could ever meet, she creates magic in the kitchen, she has tons of interesting stories and you can improve significantly your French. The working side of this was just great, helping at the bar or at kitchen, serving, cleaning and more tasks that require a restaurant to work perfectly. The little town where is located is very quiet and beautiful, perfect to connect with nature and go on walks to the woods. We are so thankful!

Sylou and Richard are the sweetest, they are very kind. I enjoyed so much my days there, I would have loved staying more days but I had to travel. The work in the restaurant is great and you will learn some french in the best way, the things that Sylou prepares are so delicious and the volunteering's bedrooms are very comfortable. I loved it here, thank you guys so much, I really hope to see you again.

I loved it so much I asked to extend my stay! Richard and the locals only speak French. Sylou does speak English but can help you learn better French. Meals and bedroom accommodations are very good. I mainly helped with laundry and making beds at the main house. Sylou communicates expectations so that both parties are on the same page. Terrace needs to be set up before 9am. Restuarant closed Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday. She might be able to give you rides to la charite when she goes grocery shopping on those days, ask nicely ;) I would come back!!

Merci beaucoup Sylou pour des semaines extraordinaires dans la Nièvre! Je pars avec bons souvenirs, superbe recettes, et plus de confidence à parler le français. À bientôt, j'espère!
