Loved my stay at the lodge so much, and chose to extend for a few extra days to explore the beautiful river. Work and schedule is very fair, even on shift scheduled days you have enough time to do your own thing. Would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys a slower pace of life in an abundance of nature. My one note would be to go into the experience in a conscious and mindful awareness of gentrification concepts that you might be exposed to due to the hotel being located in a remote and traditional Mayan community. Miss my the lodge family dearly, hope to be back soon!

I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to volunteer at the lodge. The surrounding area is beautiful. Pia and the managers are all very sweet and help to make the stay a great time. Dany showed us around the area to the cool spots (if he says wear shoes, listen). I would gladly return to the lodge in a heartbeat. I will cherish my time there forever 🫶🏼

Gorgeous, gorgeous place filled with equally gorgeous, kind-hearted people. The work was more than fair, and there was always enough time to wander, soak in the surrounding nature and reconnect with myself. Being enshrouded by the rivers, mountains, the sound of birds and crickets, and the many dogs made every day feel magical. The food was incredible—just as incredible as the kitchen staff who prepared it. And Pia is such a caring soul, such a fun person to work with. I'd happily come back here any time.

My experience at the lodge has been nothing short of transformative, nourishing, inspiring and rewarding. I immediately felt welcomed by the volunteers, community, and the family. the lodge grew to feel like home for me– I am so grateful for the deep immersion in mother nature, access to the river, and many local places to explore. the lodge has a unique essence that allows deeper connection to not only others, but to yourself. The work/life balance is one of the best I have ever experienced as a volunteer– the hours are fair, work is intentional, and rest is honored. Thank you the lodge🤍✨🌿

My stay at the lodge was nothing short of magical! I felt so welcomed immediately and the tasks were laid out clearly. As a volunteer I had plenty of free time to explore the area, swim in the river, and I even took local Spanish classes at the hotel (thanks Josúe!) and was able to practice and improve my Spanish a lot. It honestly felt like I had my little jungle family on this stay. Pia was a great host and always made the time a fun one! The trade is very fair and I always felt so cared for during my stay. This was my first Worldpackers experience and it was such an incredible time for me!

Honestly, a home away from home. From the start to finish it felt like a family. The most special humans, special animals , and special environment. You learn so much from everyone around you and share stories like friends forever. Treated like a guest off your shift and on haha ! But Pia and the rest of the team made sure you are comfortable and looked after all the time. A very special place in our hearts and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beautiful jungle, no other place better. For us this was not a goodbye, but a see you again ! Xx

I arrived late at night and was welcomed with dinner (pizza night) and dessert (cake) and a table full of other volunteers who laughed and shared their stories with me as though I was already family! In the morning, I awoke to a beauty unparalleled: the jungles of Guatemala, the river, the birds, and peace! Pia, Mario, and all team of wonderful people that work at the lodge made me feel a part of a unit almost immediately. And the other volunteers: Julio, Sarah, Victor, Jacqueline, Jack, Alexa, Karla, and Hannah were a burst of pure joy. Family dinners with them were my absolute favorite!

I received a good introduction at the beginning and was able to settle in well. While working in the kitchen, I was constantly supported by the managers, which made communication easier. They were always available to answer questions. The relationship between what I received (food, accommodation, benefits) and the work I had to do was also very fair. I had a great time and felt very comfortable. It's a wonderful, transformative experience to be in this place, surrounded by nature.

Had an amazing month at the lodge! From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel welcome. The work was more than fair — especially considering how well we were looked after with incredible food and drinks. As a meat eater, I was honestly blown away by how delicious everything was. We made great friends, spent hours playing in the river, and really enjoyed the slow jungle lifestyle. The hardest part was leaving. Hopefully we'll be back one day — this place is something special.

We loved our time at the lodge! The surrounding area is gorgeous, with Mayan locals living all around you in the village of Samill. There are lots of places to explore around the river. Semuc is close by. The hours are very reasonable, we worked 5 hours for 3 days, then had 2 days off. They made sure we had a day off together as a couple. The staff have a good sense of humour and it's a nice culture. The meals are excellent! You'll find yourself feeling very relaxed at the lodge. I really recommend it. The sorts of people who get drawn to volunteer here are lovely, it was sad to leave.
